O'Brien resigns as Celtics coach
I guess he made the right move, because he was more than likely going to be fired by the end of the season with the way the Celtics have been playing this season since there are some good coaches out there like Bryon Scott and Doc Rivers.

At least he can say he made the playoffs. Paul_Pierce_The_Truth would be pissed right now. This year just isnt the Celtics year. They got some good young talent, though.

Man. some of these Organazations have BIG EGOS.. now the celtics lose there coach thanks to Danny Ainge ..wow. more of these teams should learn to run there teams like the Lakers,Kings and Mavs with good owners .. maybe thats why those teams are always on top the the league they know how to treat there coaches.

This was stupid O'Brien was doing the best he could with the team he had. Its not like Boston were struggling that badly. For the team he was doing damn good, its completely stupid. Ahhh well maybe we can take this time now to try to create and improve the team for a future push!

o'brien was quietly one of the better coaches in the league. the celtics were crap before he arrived. the celts have made the playoffs with virtually no post game in his full years as the boston coach. they went to the east finals 2 years ago (pp's breakout year) and they upset a much more talented team in the pacers in the playoffs last year.

ever since o'brien took over, the GM has consistently got rid of important role players to the team- kenny anderson, rodney rogers, tony delk, then battie and williams. now the all the team has to show for those moves are 3 deadweights in raef, mills, and baker... a decent player in welsch and an enigma in the selfish davis.

i'm happy o'brien got out of this situation.

The lack of good post players does excuse the greater number of perimeter shots. But there still has to be some discipline when it comes to attempts. In any case, I was just offering an area in which O'Brien has been criticised. As you noted, he has had a fairly successful run at the helm of the Celtics; he's kept them in the top eight in the East.

Then again, Byron Scott's tenure as head coach of the Nets was also pretty successful. Though he twice failed to guide the Nets to a title, the team did go to the NBA Finals two years in a row and remains one of the top teams in the East this year. I guess some teams aren't happy with the system when things are good, but not good enough.
