Situation with darko

Sat Dec 13, 2003 12:36 pm

he was a very good prospect coming into this season but he has not played too well. that may be due to his coach larry brown not wanting him and not letting him play. it maybe his lack of skills to compete in the league. or maybe he just hasn't developed yet. what do you guys think?

i personally think that he is getting screwed over by coach brown and his skills aren't all there yet. he hasn't scored a point in the nba so far and when he comes in the game in the last couple of minutes, they try to feed him the ball and he whiffs it(i've only seen a couple of his games) i'm just saying that based on what i have seen. coach brown wanted melo anthony and if i was joe dumars or whoever makes the draft decisions, i would have taken carmelo too. but thats just me

A lot of people don't understand a very simple thing. Darko is younger than LeBron. He is the Pistons future and won't see any significant floor time for a few years. The Pistons are loaded at the Center and Power Forward positions with Okur, Wallace, Ham, Campbell, Rebraca and some others that I may have left out.

yea its tru.....darko was just turned 18 in july i think all the other guys are 19 (lebron turning 19 this month) and the pistons have much more experienced and currently better players than him at the inside positions

and he missed an open dunk right under the basket yesterday

Brown also said Jared Jeffries would be Rookie of the Year and was the best player in last years class...so...I wouldn't listen to him either...

Darko, Darko, Darko...Carmelo, Carmelo, Carmelo...how many times do we need to go over this kids? Darko Milicic was the best pick for the Detroit Pistons (though I am beginning to wonder about Chris Bosh) and Carmelo Anthony was not.

If the Pistons had drafted Anthony, I suspect it likely he would be playing almost as little as Darko if not for Larry Brown's complete inability to use Corliss Williamson properly. Brown was already committed to playing Prince 35 minutes a night. But since we have to go over this again...we shall...

Darko wasn't drafted to make the Pistons the best team in the East. They already are one of the best teams in the East. A few changes to the roster and they are the best team in the entire Eastern Conference. Darko is there to push the team over the edge and make them a Championship team. Shaq is likely gone by the time Darko develops, and that time allows Joe D to build the remainder of the team (remember the Pistons have made moves that open up cap space so they will be like San Antonio, good with cap space but the core still intact). The reason it confuses people is that the majority of teams get a guy to build around. Joe D believes in building a team and then adding the superstar (be it Darko, or someone they get in trade or FA) so the superstar has to play within the team. It's pretty similar to the old Pistons team in that Isiah had to conform to the team and they turned from low end team to the best team around.

Carmelo would not have fit because a number of reasons I have outlined. Click "profile" and view all posts I have made.

Anyway, back to how awesome Darko is. Tonight he showed his baseline spin which is top five in the league and his jump hook which is damn near perfect to score. Hopefully this will cause Larry Brown to play him since he's pissed at Mehmo and Corliss Williamson is a slop bucket.

jared jefferies blew out his knee didnt he????????

the problem was all he top 3 guys in the draft that in their own individual drafts would have been 1st picks and bosh was a 2nd pick player just in a very deep draft

BOSH is the mann...i love that guy

and year darko was drafted as a prospect......he is not like lebron or mel and couldn't handle being a team leader at all....the pistons were a team that were good enough to take him and mold him into a star

the pistons shouldn't have drafter melo b/c they dont need him.......tayshaun is a better defender and 3 point shooter and you need role players

I heard Darko Milicic jumped over a Car and did a dunk and i saw a pic....as Evidence

Even though I understand the Pistons' reasons for drafting Milicic and keeping him on the bench for now, I still hate the idea of using high draft picks to take projects that probably will (but still possibly won't) work out down the road. It just seems like such a waste.

Obviously it hasn't hurt the Pistons at all, but it would be a shame if Darko doesn't work out as planned. Detroit could have also sought to trade the second pick for someone who would have made an immediate impact, or they could have taken Anthony or Bosh. But I guess it's useless to talk about the possibilities now. It will probably come up if Darko turns out to be a poor investment though.

if Melo was drafted he wouldn't be the 'man' on the Pistons like he pretty much is on the Nuggets, could he handle that? Besides Joe D hasn't made a bad move in his GM career so i won't doubt him yet (or ever for that matter). Darko will probably turn out to be a real good player, but if he doesn't look for Memo to be a top leage PF.

Oh yeah, i'd honsetly take T Prince over C Anthony anyday
