Sources: Lakers considering signing Metta World Peace

As reported by Woj: Sources: Lakers considering signing Metta World Peace

The Los Angeles Lakers are discussing the possibility of signing free agent forward Metta World Peace to a one-year contract, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

No deal has been agreed upon, but there have been talks between the Lakers and World Peace's representatives, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

There are varying degrees of interest within the Lakers organization about bringing him back to the franchise at 35 years old, although the idea has been met with enthusiasm from Lakers star Kobe Bryant, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

A one year deal isn't exactly a terrible move, and it's feasible that he can make a positive contribution here and there. But at the same time, it's kind of a desperate move, bringing in someone that had some point had name recognition - under two different names, no less! - after missing out on all the noteworthy players that were supposedly joining them this offseason.

They must finish in the bottom 3 to retain their pick, otherwise it will go to the Sixers

True, I still think they will be a lottery team however

For sure it is going to be another shitty and drama-laced season. It would be great if MWP can tutor julius randle and anthony brown. IDK though if MWP has it in him to teach. Also, if Nash would hang around to teach Clarkson and Russel that would be great too. And Jabbar is close to Hibbert. It'd be great if the young ones can be taught be players who were great at their respective positions.

I hope the Lakers can turn things around sooner, but I think things will start to change once Jeannie Buss ultimately fires his brother Jim in a couple of years.

I can only comment on what I saw of MWP teaching during his short stay in NY and what was that Shumpert's defence did improve with what looked like Metta in his ear but his body language and overall attitude got worst by the day.

From wikipedia
China and Italy (2014–2015)
On August 4, 2014, World Peace signed with the Sichuan Blue Whales of the Chinese Basketball Association.[55] Due to a recurrent knee injury, he was replaced on the roster in December 2014 with Daniel Orton. In 15 games, World Peace averaged 19 points, 6 rebounds and 2.3 steals per game.[56]
On March 24, 2015, World Peace signed with Pallacanestro Cantù of Italy for the rest of the 2014–15 Lega Basket Serie A season.[57] On May 27, 2015, in Cantù's Game 5 quarter-final loss to Reyer Venezia Mestre which ended their season, World Peace was ejected from the game and charged with five fouls after getting involved in a skirmish during the fourth quarter.[58] In July 2015, he parted ways with the club after the two parties could not come to a new contract agreement.[59

man.. this guy never learns. Now that he's old and useless, why would anyone want him is a myth to me.

As I mentioned somewhere before, they'd need to sign him at MLE just to cover the fines.

I don't see much sense in this potential move, since I don't think he'd be a great locker room presence. Might provide some amusing headlines though, so I kind of hope they do it.

I still want to hear "World Peace; REJECTED!"

TNT will probably exert some pressure to the Lakers to sign MWP to grab viewership for that Lakers reality show. lol

Los Angeles Lakers re-sign forward Metta World Peace

The Los Angeles Lakers are giving Metta World Peace another chance.

The veteran forward re-signed with Los Angeles on Thursday, agreeing to a one-year deal to resume his NBA career.

He won a championship ring with the Lakers in 2010 when he was still known as Ron Artest, starting all 23 postseason games in the highlight of his four-year tenure in Los Angeles.
