Am I the only one?

Fri May 11, 2007 2:21 pm

I hate it when my teams lose. The last two Warriors games have been excruciatingly painful. I could look at the big picture of a bright future and many more successful teams down the road, but I have complete tunnel vision when it comes to the present. I was also yelling at the Suns' trainer when he couldn't close Nash's gash. If only Robert Sarver were more like George Steinbrenner... he would have been fired by now.

Relating all of these anecdotes to my actual point....

Am I the only one who refuses to watch anything sports related after my favorite team(s) lose? I usually watch Around the Horn and Pardon the Interruption everyday, but not in the playoffs after a loss. I dont even post here after a loss.

I don't go that far but after a Bulls loss I sometimes have a hard time getting into the second half a doubleheader. I like to think of myself as a hardcore hoops fan who can watch pretty much watch any well-played game and be entertained but it's hard to get excited about a game between two teams you don't favour over one another while you're still feeling disappointed about watching your favourite team lose.

Well my access to NBA games at present is very limited, but I do know where you're coming from. When Geelong loses big games, especially finals, in the AFL I'm usually pretty devastated and easily irritable. I don't want to know anything about the game, or see the final scores or anything for at least a day or two.

Geelong have a tendency to lose in big games, but it never gets any easier.

With the Bucks, they always seem to lose the expected easy games (especially to teams like Atlanta and Boston) then scrape out wins against the Spurs or Pistons. Can be very frustrating. But when they played Detroit in the first round last year, I hardly expected them to win a game, so I was happy when they won one. At present, though, there is a lot of tension building up for the draft lottery. I will pretty disenfranchised if the Bucks don't get a top 3 pick.

I was quite depressed and i had no mood to work after rockets lost to jazz in game 7.. the only way to settle myself down was eat a satisfying meal and after a few days, thinking how great jazz played and they are a superior team...

the old days when pierce/walker and the Celtics lost, i kinda lose it for a little bit..

Same goes for the Suns days with Kidd, Penny, Marion, Cliff, Big Jake, Rodney Rogers, Tony Delk...

i luved the Shaq/Penny days but then they won quite a bit for a young team..

I usually just get pissed... and go eat or sumthing lol

i get pissed off sometimes, but not in a series that's going to be 100% won

i don't like reading any articles related to the Lakers losing after they do.. i also don't finish a game everytime its a sure loss.. whenever they lose the lead on a stupid play by Odom, Cook, Smush etc on something they could've easily done, i feel like destroying everything at home.

aka taking horrible 3s from 30 ft away so he can walk off the court pumping his fist like Jordan.

or his travelling call at the end of the game. as Kenny Smith would say, "I thought we left that behind in grade school."

oh yeah i forgot..Kobe is also no exception

to answer your question axel, yes and no. in the nba i will watch it after my team loses(they never even make it anymore) but in other sports i stop. infact in hockey and baseball i dont even start watching til playoffs lol. the patriots blew it last year, they should be superbowl champs right now. after watching them throw the game away to the colts i refused to watch the superbowl. i was seriously hurting for a few weeks after that one.

It really depends on the game. I have to admit, since the Timberwolves have missed the playoffs for three straight years I've become less and less glued to the TV during the NBA Playoffs. A lot of it has to do with me doing other things but you have to contribute part of it with the fact that I don't have any high interest in the teams playing.

However, I watched the Golden State/Dallas series very intently due to me being a big time Dallas hater. I'm interested in the Pistons due to the connections they have to the Timberwolves (Billups and Saunders) but other than those two examples I don't really watch much playoff basketball anymore. When the conference Finals roll around I'll pay a lot more attention to it but the drama really isn't there right now for the NBA. I'm a guy who usually prides himself on saying it isn't all about star power but maybe it is. Lebron James is the only true star left in the playoffs and he isn't big enough to grasp the country in NBA fever.

After some reflection with this post, I guess I have to say that I'm less interested in the playoffs when my team isn't in it. It use to be different, when the Timberwolves would always lose in the first round I'd still watch the other rounds just as intently but as I've grown up I guess I've become less and less dependant on the NBA. I work a lot of nights now so I don't get home until around 10pm anyways, when a lot of the games are over or ending. Yeah...I have a lot of excuses lined up. :)

Well being a supporter of 2 very inconsistent teams in Denver and Essendon i've gotten used to losing, but if i went for good teams and they lost in the playoffs i'd be pretty pissed, not that im pissed that Denver lost to SA and Essendon have lost there last 3... :x

I think it's also hard when you've become accustomed to seeing excellence from your teams in the past. It is very difficult being a Bombers fan at the moment.

Especially when it's so easy to look back on the days earlier in the milennium (one L or two?) or the early 90s and 80s. You remember those times and often it doesnt seem like anything should have changed. But it has.

Maybe i'm getting old.

I also try to avoid sports after a loss, and especially, ESPECIALLY, people who are going to gloat.

Like Collingwood supporters on the 26th of April.

I get into more of a state of depression than anger. I have watched probably 3 games after the Raptors got eliminated this year.

Blazers piss me off so bad! They give up so many huge leads that should be an easy win, it is sooooo frustrating. Also i was really pissed off when we got number 4 in the draft lottery last year, when we had the best chance! but it turned out ok in the end, drafting 2 of the best rookies.

I have almost lost all hope for Carlton in the AFL. They have won the wooden spoon (bottom of the standings) 2 years in a row, and everyone says that they are going to be a great side in years to come but it doesnt look like that will ever happen!

So yeah, when my team loses, i would usually punch something or try and do something to get the anger out of my system.

The same thing has been frustrating me about the Bulls the past few years, particularly this season since it ultimately cost them an opportunity to win 50 games and grab homecourt advantage through the second round.
