05-06 Season MVP

Tue Jan 23, 2007 1:05 pm

I wasn't quite updated during the 05-06 Season because I was busy with school, but I do know that the Lakers on that Season was very weak, but still they made it through the Season to mark a place in the Playoffs because of Kobe Bryant. So despite his heroic efforts, becoming the scoring champ and also the effort for the team to get to Playoffs, does not make him the MVP?

Could anybody explain to me why Kobe isnt the 05-06 Season MVP?

Tue Jan 23, 2007 1:12 pm

Despite what Laker homers and Suns haters will tell you...

Steve Nash deserved the MVP because he led the Suns to elite status, despite the injury to Amare Stoudemire. 90% of NBA experts expected the Suns to miss the playoffs...instead, they finished with the 2nd seed in the west (and would've made it to the NBA Finals, if it wasn't for Raja's calf injury against the Mavs).

Also, players who led their team to very high records are more likely to be MVP. Kobe's team was hovering close to .500, so it wasn't enough to warrant an MVP.

Tue Jan 23, 2007 2:00 pm

maybe so, but then why were people saying LBJ got robbed? It's not like the Cavs were elite.

Tue Jan 23, 2007 3:48 pm

And some was even saying Kobe got robbed big time? Even so, I think the reason for the Suns having a good record despite the loss of Amare was because of Shawn Marion and Boris Diaw, whose performances stepped up to lift the team.

That was always my point I don't want to say that Kobe deserved it but...
Nash(18.8 points 10.5 assists) (leading his team to a 50 win season without Amare... he still had the matrix though who posted 21.8 points and 11.8 boards a game. Plus he had the MIP.

Lebron posted 31.4 points 7.0 rebounds and 6.6 assists  that is crazy plus he had only half decent players in Hughes and Ilgauskaus.

Kobe posted 35.4 points 5.3 boards 4.4 assists.. the only player he had who was good was lamar but he was very inconsistent and not near Marion and Smush who was a surprise but not near Diaw....

I know the cavs and the lakers did not have the record the suns have but I would have chosen both lebron and Kobe over nash... i think he got the MVP because they thought the suns/nash would be nothing without amare and he proved the opposite... but his value is IMO lower than those of the other 2

My point exactly, actually IMO last season, if you take off Kobe from the Lakers and LeBron from the Cavs, i think the Cavs would get the upper hand since Lamar was nowhere near the consistency zone, same to Smush, Hughes was somewhat consistent and Ilgauskaus was solid.

Kobe's 81 points effort and other high scoring games was the answer for the victory of the Lakers, especially the consistency he shows at 4th quarters which mostly results to Wins, don't you think those kinds of contributions make a player the MVP?

Just getting your team to the playoffs does not make you an MVP. If that was the case we'd have 16 MVPs.

And as much as Kobe carries the Lakers now that Shaq is gone, the same can be said of Michael Redd, LeBron, Arenas, Jermaine O'Neal, Elton Brand, Melo, and Pau Gasol. Are all those guys also MVPs?

And the scoring title doesn't automatically make an MVP. 6' 7" Rick Barry, in only his 2nd year, scored 35.6 ppg and 9.2 rpg...and this was before shots beyond the arc counted for 3...he would have scored more by today's rules. In that 2nd year Barry took his team to the NBA Finals and scored 40.8 ppg in the series. You know won MVP? Wilt Chamberlain.

Case in point, Rick Barry did far more at an earlier age than Kobe, and Barry did not get MVP. Why should Kobe?

you can't bring those rick barry stories man those just too old..

and Michael Redd did carry his team but not with great success LeBron did (I would have put him over kobe probably... arenas had Jameson and Butler who were great...Jermaine did not have such a great season Elton Brand would have deserved it as well... Melo had Camby who's just great... Pau might've also deserved it...

That has got to be the best argument I've ever read on the internet. Ever.

Your argument is so unbelievably flawed. The Lakers STRUGGLE when Kobe looks to take 30 shots a game and doesn't get his teammates involved. The Lakers' success in the first round of last year's playoffs, as well as so far this season, is due to Kobe taking a role as team leader as well as distributor, not just some guy who jacks up contested shots.

You don't think Steve Nash makes contributions that make him the MVP? Open your eyes. Almost everything the Suns do on offense is a result of Steve Nash creating plays. In 2004-2005, he showed that he can be the glue that holds an extremely talented team together. In 2005-2006, when Amare, Joe Johnson, and Q-Rich were gone, he showed that he could continue to hold together a depleted team that had no expectations coming into the season.

Fri Jan 26, 2007 9:18 am

Steve Nash deserved the MVP 2 years ago, he deserved it last year, and he'll deserve it when he wins it again this year.

Fri Jan 26, 2007 9:23 am

Just because he deserved the MVP doesn't mean others aren't more deserving.

Fri Jan 26, 2007 9:38 am

Maybe he deserved it more than others?
