Nash ties NBA record...

... with John Stockton for 9 assists in the first quarter. All in the first quarter, so it should be interesting to see how much he ends up with. At this "pace," he'll break Scott Skiles' record of 30 assists in a game, but it's unlikely.

Edit: I meant the record was tied for the first quarter specifically, not for any quarter.

I think Nash will probably finish with 18-20 assists tonight, depending on if its a blowout and they sit him. Either way, great performance thus far.

It was 14 by John Lucas, and most assists in a half was done by Bob Cousy with 19. I don't know whether to be more shocked that neither of those guys broke Skiles' record, or that Skiles wasn't mentioned in the aforementioned categories.

Great achievement, and some of the passes he made were pretty awesome, like the feed to Barbosa for the reverse layup, he went through about 3 people with a bounce pass. I think he will have another crack at MVP again, hes a great player, he makes his teammates awesome players and the Suns arent doing too badly. Whereas Lebron's Cavs arent doing so well as they were at the start.

Nash might be more deserving than last year by season's end. Looking like it's predetermined that he won't win it though, just because he's not as elite as Larry Bird, Magic, Wilt, etc.

The opposite argument can easily be made; it's Steve Nash who is making the system work. Other coaches in the league have even said that they would like to impliment the Suns' system, but they can't for lack of multiple Stevies.

Nash has deserved the two MVP's... Especially the second one. He does make everyone around him better and it's not just the system. Joe Johnson and Quentin Richardson really benefitted from Nash's presense and got their pay days. And at least Quentin isn't that special as a player. With Joe, it remains to be seen.

D'Antoni gets credit for the system, but without Nash, the system wouldn't work nearly as well. So it's not like a one pony race...

Barring serious injuries, the Suns will be team to beat come play-off time... They've already went 9/10 in the last 10 games... Which is a pace that will earn Nash another MVP award... If the Suns finish with 60+ wins, the MVP award will be hard to take away from him...

Yeah, because Joe (28/5/4) Johnson and Quentin (14/7/2) Richardson have really struggled without Nash around I guess Tyrone Lue and Stephon Marbury make their teammates better too.

That's not the opposite argument though, and Steve Nash isn't the sole reason the system works. The entire team is built for it, if it was just Nash's influence alone then everyone on the team would be flourishing, not just guys like Stoudemire/Marion who were already good. Then there's Barbosa who puts up monster stats even when Nash isn't in the team.

If Nash wins another MVP award then it officially becomes a joke and people are way way too easily pleased.

Another thread for the most overrated player maybe even in NBA history. Jason Kidd is a better point guard+good defender. Well at least in his younger days.
