Dwight Howard: Best Center in the East?

Thu Nov 02, 2006 1:37 pm

This kid has developed very nicely in the past three years and is living up to the 1st pick of the 2004 NBA Draft. With improved post moves, better inside scoring, and improved blocking and rebounding, D Howard might be the best Center in the East. Maybe better than Shaq. Maybe better then Ben Wallace.

27 pts, 11 reb, 3 ast, 2 blk

Tonight against Ben Wallace and the Bulls. Did you see his one block where he hand was all the way up the backboard. It was sick!!

he would be the best, superb athlete, great defender and now has shown some nice offensive moves. Im really pissed of with Ben tho, he only got 11 points for my fantasy league :x

You should have known that Big Ben isn't really a good fantasy points getter... and when he plays bad, he's even worse

hopefully Howard becomes a dominant defensive force this season.

i thought he was good? anyways a DPOY should not go thru a game with only 5 rebounds and no blocks or steals!

It's one freakin game, don't make it a big deal.

Howard for MVP, this guy is KG all over again.

Howard's becoming one of my fav big men in the league, Okafor had a pretty nice game yesterday too, something like 16 pts, 13 reb, and 6 blks.

I like Dwight Howard too, but can we at least wait until he plays 2 games before promoting to Best Center in his conference?

Fri Nov 03, 2006 8:32 am

Pretty nice performance by him, It really made me amazed then I saw he played 33 minutes only, for such stats...

it was the Howard highlight show last nite. at first he kept on using the same drop step move, but even there he showed good footwork. then he started going back the other way and finishing left. this guy looked pretty damn impressive

I dont think he is the best Center??? Doesnt he play Power Forward?

Sat Nov 04, 2006 10:02 am

He might end up being the new shaq/dominent player down low....or hopefully he will. However, naming a thread his "coming out party" is a little misleading. :!:

Fine, I'll change the title.

Here's your new Shaq

NBA.com wrote:In the ORLANDO SENTINEL, Brian Schmitz writes “a young, charismatic center with a Madison Avenue smile and a powerhouse game is ready to carry a team and town on his back. Sound familiar, Orlando Magic fans? He's on course to produce jaw-dropping dunks, sellout crowds and playoff appearances. And talk about eerie. The same man who coaches this phenom also coached the other. Yes, Brian Hill, the Magic and their faithful have been here before -- with Shaquille O'Neal. They have a case of Deja Dwight.”

To be the next Shaq he's got a long way to go but has a better shot than anyone else.

But at Howard's age (so around Shaq's rookie year) Shaq averaged 23 ppg 14 rpg and 3.5 blocks per game. I'm sure Dwight will get there on the boards but i'm not sure about reaching Shaq's scoring & blocking ability.

He just doesn't have the extra size Shaq had, Shaq was always the largest guy on the court and had enough stamina to battle in the post for 40 mpg...very rare. Dwight is quoted as saying "Hedo is taller than I am". Turkoglu is 6' 10". That's probably why he's not playing Center.

If today is any indication, Orlando certainly made the correct choice choosing Dwight over Emeka. 24 and 21 at 3 quarter time. Dwight is an absolute monster.......

Sun Nov 19, 2006 12:12 pm

monster due to his athleticism.... who do u think is the better athlete? james or howard

Sun Nov 19, 2006 1:12 pm

James is the better athlete, but Howard's stronger and better with the boards.

Sun Nov 19, 2006 3:24 pm

Like there's any REAL, I mean TRUE centres in the East!! They are all Power Forwards. .

Sun Nov 19, 2006 4:23 pm

A New Nickname I'm giving to Dwight Howard:

DWIGHT "THE MIGHT" HOWARD

Watchoo Think peeps?

AND YES!! Dwight Howard is the best Center in the EAST.. But there aren't any true centers in the EAST.. All of the great centers in the EAST played PF before..

But as long as they can play Center.. It doesn't matter..
