On Court Attire

Sat Oct 28, 2006 11:06 am

http://www.usatoday.com/sports/basketba ... mity_x.htm

•Players must remove warm-ups on the bench, not snap them off at the scorer's table. Jerseys have to be tucked in before players enter the game.

"We're trying to (speed up) the game. ... Don't go into the game three times, once when you get up, once when go to the stoop and once when you go into the game finally."

•Players can wear one 4-inch wristband on each wrist. They cannot be worn on the bicep and headbands can be no wider than 2 inches.

"All of sudden they go from 2 inches to 7 inches. They have commercial messages, and then they're on the elbow, then they go all the way up, and then they're disconnected, in bright psychedelic colors. What is going on here?"

•Players can no longer sport tights or long compression socks.

"Because there are no rules, all of a sudden you get tight manufacturers looking for endorsements, so guys suddenly put on tights whether they are there for a good reason or not."

•Players will be called for technicals for excessive complaining.

Kobes crying somewhere

This is stupid, it takes the symbolic things from each player.....Iverson and Carmelo wont be able to wear their famous sleeves, Kobe wont be able to wear his famous bicep band. I dont see the point, it takes away the individuality away from each player and makes them soldiers or some shit like that. I dont like the idea, although getting rid of those tights was a good idea, other than that its dumb.

About time, some whinies need to shut up.

Sat Oct 28, 2006 11:21 am

The game will be so much better for these new rules involving sweat bands and the like.

Sat Oct 28, 2006 11:29 am

I would assume any of these rules can by by-passed for valid medical reasons? I always wear a band on my right elbow when I play, but it's not aesthetic. My elbow gets sore after a while (probably orignated from pitching too much in baseball) and the pressure relieves the pain. Wasn't there something last year about the tights being worn for medical reasons? What came of that?

CMJ, I agree. Melo is just cornrows and a few tats without his sleeve!

Sat Oct 28, 2006 11:43 am

what the hell? wats wrong with wearing a sweat band on your bicep

The same goes for Iverson, hes been wearing it for a long time.

Next they are gonna ban Rip's face mask just for the fun of it.

Sat Oct 28, 2006 12:01 pm

Probably, just so David Stern can wear it during sex.

Seriously though, this is pathetic. Ban Robert Swifts hair for gods sake, thats the "attire" that can hurt anyone, with the exception of headbands. (actually a headband would make Swifts 'do safer...)

Thats the same thing I'm wondering. I just get the feeling they are implementing these rules so it gives off the false impression that someone is doing their job.

Sat Oct 28, 2006 12:35 pm

Theyve come down with a bad case of justifcationofpaycheckitis

Sat Oct 28, 2006 1:14 pm

"This is not our favorite subject ... being a detention monitor," Stern said

Odd, because they seem to enjoy it.

While it's fair enough for the league to be concerned with their image and enforce regulations on uniform, those new rules seem extraordinarily petty and pointless. They really seem like changes for the sake of wielding power rather than addressing any real problems.

Sat Oct 28, 2006 1:47 pm

ya seriously, Iverson and the sleeve has become a norm.. it just always reminds you of how tough he is, always playing through injuries and still getting hit game in and out. Sigh whatever, i guess they want more focus on the game rather than the extra stuff that the players were wearing

Sat Oct 28, 2006 2:15 pm

those tights were stupid though.

Sat Oct 28, 2006 4:06 pm

The medical reason for the tights was that they kept the players legs warm, allowing tense muscles to stay loose easier... I'm not sure how much validity there is to that though... Other players like Dwayne Wade wore super padded tights so it wouldn't hurt whenever they got jarred in the legs or fell.

Sat Oct 28, 2006 5:55 pm

With those new rules, that means Ben Wallace can't wear his long wrist bands.

Sat Oct 28, 2006 7:26 pm

I'm not really going to miss this:

Don't really see what's wrong with eg. Ben Wallace's bands though.

Sat Oct 28, 2006 11:42 pm

I think there's some justification. As Stern said, some of the stuff their attire was becoming the club uniform, like with the Bucks. Also, Stern did say that the symbolic things were becoming the norm, thus no longer becoming symbolic.

cklitsie, that LBJames pic is hilarious! Actually, now that I think about it, tights do look pretty wrong.

Perhaps, players should start patenting "looks".

Sun Oct 29, 2006 12:42 am

Isn't the purpose of Iverson's armband to cover up some inappropriate tatoos or something? I'm pretty sure that I read that somewhere (probably here I think).

Sun Oct 29, 2006 1:10 am

Stern should retire as the commissioner...he's taken the NBA to new heights from the 80's to 90's but now in the 00's he's only been fucking it up.

Sun Oct 29, 2006 1:12 am

Soon the NBA have restrictions that have players looking like they were playing in the days of punani shorts.

Sun Oct 29, 2006 1:20 am

lol..punani shorts?...isn't punani also called vagina?

Sun Oct 29, 2006 1:20 am

•Players can no longer sport tights or long compression socks.

That doesn't mean Iverson can't wear his sleeve, I'm pretty sure I saw Nate wearing one the other night. It only says tights and compression socks, not sleeves.
