Robert Swift gone for season

Fri Oct 27, 2006 7:03 pm

Looks like the new look wont get much viewing this season unless its on the sidelines.

Seattle Post-Intelligencer - The Sonics will enter their 40th season without one of their key younger players, as the Seattle Post-Intelligencer learned Thursday night that center Robert Swift will miss the season with a right knee injury.

According to a Sonics player and another member of the organization, Swift's MRI revealed major damage that will cost him the year. Team physician Richard Zorn will examine the MRI results today and the team is expected to make an announcement this afternoon.

The Sonics player said the team was informed of the news before Thursday's 111-107 overtime preseason win over Golden State at Spokane Arena.

Sonics coach Bob Hill refused to address the extent of Swift's injury before the game, telling reporters the team would handle the results upon its return to Seattle. Swift, 20, was injured in the first two minutes of the team's 103-88 win over the Sacramento Kings on Wednesday.

"I feel really bad for Robert because he worked so hard," Hill said after Wednesday's game. "He came in to Furtado (Center) every day and lifted and it made a difference. I was really excited for him."

Oh shit... I heard about a few days ago Robert Swift was going to start this year, sucks for the Sonics.

Feel pretty bad for the guy cause it seems like he's been workiing pretty hard all summer. It's also pretty bad for the Sonics because it will make their year that little bit harder, and the worse they do the more likely they'll end up somewhere like Oklahoma. I guess Petro starts now, Sene gets a few back-up minutes, and you might see Wilcox and Collison on the court together a fair bit. Maybe they'll really speed up their offence and take advantage of their speed to overcome their lack of height.

As a Sene fan, I like it.

With him bulking up and starting to get his game together and all that shit i guess it was too good to be true if you know what i mean. Will he ever have a good season in the NBA?

Fri Oct 27, 2006 8:43 pm

that sux, i wanted to see how he played with his new look

damn, all that body ink & ginger fro go to waste (N) ahh well, I guess the Sonics' fate rest on Sene :| or Danny Fortson at C (Y)

This guy was going to be more hilarious to watch this season than even Chris Kaman, and now I have nothing to look forward to during Sonics games.

Still he won't start. Johan Petro or Fortson.

Petro will likely be the starter since Fortson has some injury issues and Petro started a lot last season... Either way its a tough loss. I was looking forward to watching him play significant minutes this season... oh well.

Sucks. I was looking forward to that hippie's red fro bobbing up and down the court in Seattle.

Sat Oct 28, 2006 10:38 am

Man, I'm thinknig the same thing. We won't get to see his new gangta look :(

Sat Oct 28, 2006 11:44 am

Way to pull a Nene.

My heart broke when I saw this. I used to be a Robert Swift look a like but with brown hair :proud: and no tats.

Sun Oct 29, 2006 8:14 pm

Damn such a shame to miss out on seeing him this season play with his crazy ass hardcore look. He may have had a slight chance of having the intimidation factor like Ben Wallace has with his fro ;)

The previous sonics ownership was pretty cheap, but maybe these guys arent. Who knows, maybe Swift will receive a 10mil a year extension after recovering from his injury...

With Robert Swift out for the season, Mouhamed Sene is expected to be the starting center for the Sonics. He should average about 15 minutes per game.

Thats not starting minutes.... :?

Mon Oct 30, 2006 6:46 pm

They are most likely going to play a rotation i would imagine. Because Sene is a rook, then Petro and Fortson will share the minutes to take the pressure off of him. Swift hasnt done much to improve the team over the years so im sure they can cope with out him.

Tue Oct 31, 2006 3:27 am

swift looked to be an improvement this year.. sucks for the sonics though since they wouldve needed him for the 5 spot.. oh well.. the fate of the sonics still is upon rashard and ray ray anyways..

Tue Oct 31, 2006 5:22 am

Rashards gonna have a super contract year and get them to the 9th spot. Close but no cigar in my opinion. Having Swift would have helped the Sonics, but even if they had him he wouldn't have made a huge difference.
