Official International Basketball Thread: World Championships

So we can have one thread to talk about them, dont know if it has already been made, if so, delete...

I was going to make this a USA Basketball Thread, but then I realized that this is an international forum, and it is better for it to be more open...

Two players will be dropped from the United States roster, Im guessing:

Arenas
Bowen

Thoughts :?:

i naturally dislike bowen so i am extremely pleased with this news.

arenas.. i dunno. not sure how well he's been playing...

Arenas is Team USA's best shooter. No way he's cut.

I'm guessing either Bowen or Battier will be gone. There's no need to have both of them on the same team.

I'm hoping Hinrich's the other.

Stoudemire, Bowen, and probably either hinrich or miller

ditto.
except Battier is the "coach's pet" so there's no way that he will be cut.

I REALLY dislike Hinrich too...

I think that Hinrich will be dropped seeing that USA already has Arenas and Chris Paul to play the PG while Wade can also step in. Also cause Hinrich was injured earlier on. The second player I see being dropped is Antawn Jamison. I don't know why but i just don't see him contributing as much as anyone else on the team. Either him or Bowen will be the second cut player.

C-Howard/Miller
PF-Bosh/Brand
SF-Anthony/James/Bowen
SG-Wade/Johnson
PG-Paul/Arenas/Hinrich

All I can say is Battier should go,Bowen should stay...USA need some D
Jamison,he's trapped in two stars,bosh/bowen

i doubt jamison will be cut, hes such a great all round player and i think he fits in well with this team. my guess is bowen or hinrich. i think battier will stay

the only thing is, he's been gtting more minutes from coach K than Arenas. I thnk Coach K likes his ability to defend the smaller quicker players.

I don't think Jamison should be cut. His size and shooting ability make him an ideal player for an international game. He's also had good rebounding numbers in past years.

I'm not sure about Battier and/or Bowen being sure to go. Afterall, roleplayers were specifically included to make this team more complete.

Arenas is out due to groin injury. Touche.

Bowen's most likely next.

Sucks for Arenas, but the team is still stacked.

In defense of Hinrich still saying on, Arenas was a better overall player but Hinrich may fit in better because:
- he's a better passer, Hinrich dropped 17 dimes in one game last season
- Team USA doesn't need a score-first guy at the Point, not with the incredible talent at the other 4 positions
- Hinrich is a better defender, and if Bowen goes the team is 1 short on perimeter defenders

Does it matter that Battier's a Duke guy?

He and Kryczewski went to the Final Four together, so there might be some favoritism?

Arenas is a shoot first point guard, and USA has enough talented scorers.

It's looking pretty obvious that with a team this organized and cohesive this time around, anything less than a medal (and a gold at that) will be considered underachieving.

In other words, USA's looking good.
