The Salt Lake Tribune - The Salt Lake Tribune is reporting that Golden State Warriors point guard Derek Fisher has been sent to the Utah Jazz for Devin Brown, Keith McLeod and Andre Owens.
Fisher averaged 13.3 points and 4.3 assists with the Warriors last season, backing up Baron Davis.
WTF? Why do they get another PG while they have 2 already?
Thu Jul 06, 2006 4:38 am
Yeah that's strange FO SHO!!!
Thu Jul 06, 2006 4:53 am
Well at least the Rockets arent the only team making dumb moves...

Every team needs someone to keep the benches nice a toasty for the nba player's asses considering most of the nba season takes place during the cold winter

I think he will help Deron to develop

Good trade for the Warriors. McLeod is a decent backup and Devin Brown is a solid role player. Not only that, but they get rid of Fisher's ludacris contract. Andre Owens is just a filler I guess, but overall the deal is pretty solid for Golden State.

Not for Utah tho. They have Deron Williams whos a sure starter for them this year. What was the point of drafting Dee Brown then?

What's the obsession with stupid GMs realizing their mistakes only one or two years later, and then digging themselves deeper. Yeah Fisher's contract was too high, but at least he could help you win, and certainly more than Devin Brown or Keith McLeod. Brown is going to be what, the fifth or sixth depth guard? What's the point of getting him? I doubt the 11th man for the Warriors is going to decide their season.

Dee Brown can play at the two position. I like this trade for Utah. I'm not a big fan of McBricks or Brown so horray for those two departing. I do, however, like Andre Owens, but I have a feeling he's going to be haunted with injuries throughout his career. Derek Fisher is the one of the few guys from Shaq's Lakers that I actually liked. I love this deal, love it.

you always need them vets on the team. Deron Williams and Dee Brown will learn alot from D-fish. he does have some Rings and that 3.4 second shot to beat the spurs under his belt.

Utah's beginning to turn into a contender. Check out this roster:
Deron Williams / Derek Fisher / Dee Brown
Gordan Giricek / Ronnie Brewer / C.J. Miles
Andrei Kirilenko / Matt Harpring
Carlos Boozer / Rafael Araujo / Paul Millsap
Mehmet Okur / Jarron Collins (?)
I like it.

Ahem, 0.4 second shot..
And I too think he's brought in to teach Williams and Brown a few things. Especially Brown since he's in many ways a similar player to Fisher IMO.
Thu Jul 06, 2006 8:41 am
Maybe Fisher and Brown will see some time at SG but they already have a lot of SG's...
Fisher's been around though and he knows his stuff so, assuming Deron and Dee listen, he can teach them a lot.
Thu Jul 06, 2006 9:02 am
Another thing that the Jazz have is Greg Ostertag's expiring contract worth $4 million that they can use for trade bait. I don't think Giricek will stay with Utah so look for him to be dealt to another team.

If by "learn alot" you mean by learning how to consistently making bad decisions on offence and consistently get burned on defence, then sure, why not.
Derek Fisher is not a leader, believe me. He had a non-existant leadership role with the Warriors and most importantly, his contract sucks. The Jazz could have gotten something better, at least a young player with some potential for those three players.
Thu Jul 06, 2006 10:42 am
Maybe he'll teach them how to be one of the better clutch shooters in the league though. But I really dont think that is much of a "taught trait".
Thu Jul 06, 2006 12:52 pm
they dont really need him but it will bring some experience to the team
Thu Jul 06, 2006 12:54 pm
should keep it all in 1 thread...
anyway fisher should help them, a good veteran guy to help the young point guard.
Thu Jul 06, 2006 1:00 pm
Not a bad trade for either team, though I didn't think I'd ever see Derek Fisher traded for three players.
Thu Jul 06, 2006 1:58 pm
I like this trade for Utah. Since when was Dee Brown a good enough backup for you to not make a deal like this? Trading Brown opens up PT for Brewer at the SG spot, and Fisher gives them a nice backup at PG/SG, and also some good outside shooting.
Thu Jul 06, 2006 2:03 pm
Just wondering, now Fishers gone, whos the 2nd string Point for GSW?
Or is it Monta Ellis?
Thu Jul 06, 2006 2:05 pm
Well they did get Keith Mcleod, so if they don't waive him or anything, it's between those 2.

hah! Giricek?? he's absolutely horrible (especially on defense, and well, offense too). Sloan will start Harpring instead of him.
Location: Utah (via Tennessee)
you moved to Utah?? I send my deepest condolences.

This is a salary dump for Golden State, probably to try and pick up Al Harrington, I hope we can still get him, but I think Golden State is now a more likely destination for him.
Thu Jul 06, 2006 3:08 pm
Fisher is a good leader. He's also a tough, experienced player with a good understanding for the game.
His defense may suck but so does 90% of point guards in the NBA.
Jerry Sloan will love having Fisher.
