NBA Players college degree information

Mon Jun 19, 2006 1:20 pm

Does anyone know where you can find out what the NBA players who went to college for four years have degrees in?

I know during the last finals game they mentioned James Posey has a degree in Forensic Science. I thought that was interesting. I know that Shaq has a degree in Criminal Phsycology or something of the sort.

It'd be interesting to know what other players have degrees in, such as Gary Payton or Damien Wilkins or Josh Howard. Does anyknow know where you can get this information?

most NBA players do easy, nothing degrees....sociology, communications or whatever else....something that they can get by without having to affect their bball career....there are some exceptions though....

Well after doing a lot of looking around I've come accross a few old articles talking about different degrees NBA players have, so far I've got this.

James Posey - Forensic Science
Juwan Howard - Communications with a minor in Business (U. of Michigan)
Jerry Stackhouse - African American Studies (U. of North Carolina at Chapel Hill)
Antawn Jamison - African American Studies (U. of North Carolina at Chapel Hill)
Michael Jordan - Geography
J.R. Reid - Communications
Adonal Foyle - Masters in History (Colgate University)
Avery Johnson - Psychology (Southern University) and Masters in Counseling (LSU)
Gary Payton - Broadcast Communications (Oregon St. U.)
J.J. Redick - History (Duke)
Bruce Bowen - Masters in Public Relations (assuming Cal St. Fullerton)
Michael Redd - Broadcast Journalism (Ohio St. U.)
Stacey Augmon - Social Work (UNLV)
Jason Maxiell - Psychology (UC)

I thought I heard somewhere Michael Ruffin gave up med school for the NBA

They may be fairy degrees, but they're interesting none the less, Juwan Howard, Bruce Bowen, Avery Johnson, James Posey, and Adonal Foyle all come off as very smart individuals when you look at their academic credentials.

Mon Jun 19, 2006 3:53 pm

Hmm, I thought there were more players that have degrees in African American Studies. For some reason, Antonio Davis comes to mind. Or was that Vince Carter?

those guys were the exceptions that I was talking about

and I still respect the other guys for finishing school & getting their degrees, regardless of what they're in :P

Wow everyone has some crazy variables of degrees,
but isnt thier like a math degree or something like that?

Tue Jun 20, 2006 10:51 am

I think Bosh has an art degree of some sort or at least he was taking art because I've read in a couple of articles that he'd most likely be a graphics designer if he wasn't playing ball.

Tue Jun 20, 2006 11:03 am

Yeah i read that too, he's a pretty smart guy I thought he was working towards a degree that was some sort of mix of mathematics and computers....

Tue Jun 20, 2006 11:14 am

Oh yes thats what im going to take  lets see i have about 8 more years to elevate (in graphics) before i get an degree...SWEET!

Tue Jun 20, 2006 5:16 pm

Wed Jun 21, 2006 2:04 am
