Pro Hop

how come it seems that centers or power forwards can do this move in the post, but whenever a guard does it they call traveling 50% of the time?

i dont get it.

It's legal when both feet hit the ground at the same time. For post players, it's easier to get both feet on the ground because they're usually coming to a drop step from a spin move from a stationary position. For guards, however, they're usually coming in off the dribble in front of the basket so it's easier for them to shuffle their feet.

I was also a bit confused at the use of the pro-hop.

I also wonder if you can pivot after doing a hop step?

i also see all the time where a guy will make his pivot foot, then pick it up as he starts to run before the ball even hits the ground. But they never call traveling.

Almost every time an nba player catches the ball they travel, they catch it on one foot, use an extra step with the other, then take one more step before stopping.

Strictly by the rules you can't pivot after a jump-stop. But tell that to LeBron "Four-Step" James.

I was watching NBA tv one day when they discussed this with Stu Jackson (I think thats his name) and he said the thing that makes them call it is when the player hops and lands on the same foot they hopped with before taking another step. I guess it has to be L-R-L or R-L-R. Its still hard to call because the play goes by so quickly.

Game 4.....D Wade catches a pass in the corner and is lining up a 3.....moves his feet to get in the right position (without dribbling)....travel, oh wait nevermind

they need to get rid of those travels because they give an unfair advantage. Same as those travels where a player catches the ball on the run.

At least FIBA calls those travels.
