Wheelchair Basketball

Thu Jun 15, 2006 7:38 pm

Does anyone compete in a wheelchair basketball league like me?

Fri Jun 16, 2006 1:14 am

No, but I've seen it played- it's amazing. Do you guys have a website or anything?

Fri Jun 16, 2006 1:32 am

Is there any cool tricks?

Fri Jun 16, 2006 12:02 pm

......................................The whole damn sport's sick.

Fri Jun 16, 2006 12:16 pm

Yea it is. It's a lot more hardcore than normal basketball I think. Can you play if you don't have leg problems?

Fri Jun 16, 2006 12:55 pm

of course you can all you need to do is sit in a wheelchair duh

Fri Jun 16, 2006 1:24 pm

I don't think they'd let you join a team if you don't have problems running.

Fri Jun 16, 2006 1:34 pm

hm. really? cause i know a couple kids here in the states who walk just fine, yet they still play wheelchar basketball. maybe just shortage here dunno.

Fri Jun 16, 2006 3:21 pm

I know some kid who has a handicapped sister and he and she both play wheelchair basketball. So you don't really need to have leg problems.

Fri Jun 16, 2006 4:26 pm

It kind of defeats the purpose of having a basketball competition for people who have problems walking/running if you let able bodied people in. It's like Ian Thorpe qualifying for the Paralympics.

Fri Jun 16, 2006 5:19 pm

not really, its not like they'd let the able-bodied people stand up and run. so they're at the same disadvantage.

Fri Jun 16, 2006 5:52 pm

But the sport wasn't designed for able bodied people.

Fri Jun 16, 2006 6:32 pm

Able bodied people are allowed to play it domesticly but not in national competition I'm guessing.

Fri Jun 16, 2006 7:58 pm

It's like Eric Cartman in the special olympics, which he still lost.

Fri Jun 16, 2006 11:11 pm

wheelchair basketball takes a lot of determination/effort/etc.. (at least from what i've seen)

if you're able bodied why not just play regular basketball? you have that opportunity...

No you can be able and still play. I'm not handicapped or anything.
But to play nationals you do have to be handicapped, but you can be able and just had an operation.eg. 2 knee reconstructions.
