Lamar Odom To Training Camp Roster For TEAM USA

Sun Mar 05, 2006 3:29 am

Report: Roster Openings Lead to U.S. Tryout for Odom

Mike Bresnahan of the LOS ANGELES TIMES reports, “Lamar Odom will be invited to try out for the U.S. basketball team, after all. One of the top players in the Athens Olympics, Odom did not make the original 22-player list finalized internally by USA Basketball last week, but he will fill one of the spots created by players who declined invitations. Roster space opened when Milwaukee guard Michael Redd and Seattle forward Rashard Lewis declined to accept the lengthy commitment, which begins in July with a training camp in Las Vegas. Redd is getting married in August and Lewis reportedly will use the summer to heal a series of nagging injuries.”

Unfortunate guys found better things to do than play for the U.S. Best of luck to Lamar.

Still no AI
This sucks.

Sun Mar 05, 2006 7:31 am

Team USA needs basketball players, not egos.

Sun Mar 05, 2006 7:44 am

What about Kobe Bryant?Kobe doesn't have an ego

Sun Mar 05, 2006 7:48 am

No AI, No AI. Do you guys realise when the Olympics are? 2008. AI is breaking down now he wont be putting up big numbers in 08 anyway so id want younger guys too.

Sun Mar 05, 2006 8:15 am

Yea i agree, AI is great, but in 3 years you can't really predict how his body is going to react to the aging process. Unlike other bigger players, AI is small, and he has sustained a lot of injuries over the years. He is a warrior, don't get me wrong, bu i think when they made the list, AI's age was one of the biggers factors that lead this. If the Olympics were held this year, i have no doubt that AI will be on the Team.

However i really have to give it to AI for WANTING to play for the US team, same goes for Kobe. I just don't understand why some of the bigger names in basketball don't want to play for their country.

breaking down to the effect of having career highs in scoring, and only .4 less assists per game than last season

Youre trying to tell him for spammimg by spamming yourself? To not turn this into spam myself, AI, even if he was selected to play at the 08 olympics, he still wouldn't play at the same level as he does now. Simple, age is a bitch.

i think he was more concerned with the fact that saying 'AI wont be able to contribute in 3 years' is a load of bullshit

you have absolutely no way of backing up your stupid point, as in the last 2 seasons AI's scoring has gone up by 7ppg, his assists look to be hanging steadily around 7.5, and thats with only 1 other scorer on the team (webber)

in his 7 allstar games, playing with other greats, he averages 15shots a game while scoring 17.3points, and nearly 7 assists

Sun Mar 05, 2006 10:13 am

How much longer do you honestly feel that will last until his body once again breaks down?

Sun Mar 05, 2006 10:15 am

AI will still be averaging 20+ in 3 years time along with 6-7 assists and about 1.5 steals, put him in the team.

Sun Mar 05, 2006 10:17 am

 Care to explain how?

if he continues the way he is now, and i cant see why he wouldnt, i can see him playing productively until his late 30's.

He doesnt have to start, put up 30+ppg or play 40+minutes, but his uncanny ability to score and pass means that he will be able to play well for years to come.

care to explain what your basing your complete bullshit on? ai has done nothing but improve in the last few seasons

Ease up turbo, no need to get so fired up. Its just in my opnion that AI cant go 3 to 4 years without an injury, do you expect to him to come back and play the same after an injury & age taking its toll? Of course he doesnt have to start, but who will start in his place..Kevin Ollie? If not him, the Sixers couldn't find any other player to possibly replace AI in a starting spot. I base my 'bullshit' on my pure opinion, which im entitled to.

Not to get off topic, i think that Lamar will be a great addition to the squad..a team player rather then just choosing big name superstars and egos.

Sun Mar 05, 2006 10:32 am

Laxation, Who do you want on the 08 Olympic squad? A 34 yr old Allen Iverson who, more then anything will be Half the player he is now BY THEN. Or a 24 yr old Chris Paul who will be the best PG in the world by then?

Sun Mar 05, 2006 10:34 am

I doubt he'll be playing in Philly in those 3 years but if he is what i said before will be his statistics, BUT! if he goes to a championship contender like Payton did he'll average 17-18 along with 7 assists an about 1.5 steals again, he will keep being a force. the only thing that will stop him in the next few years is injurys

Exactly and you cant tell if he's gonna get hurt or not. Im sure youve all seen the gay commercial where hes on the table with his head phones on and it showcases his millions of injuries, if he agrivates somthing the wrong way bam hes in a bit of trouble. Without his speed and quickness hes not very good at all.

1. whats wrong with choosing superstars with big names, if they know how to play the dam game
2. WTF does the lack of a sixers bench have to do with iverson being invitied to try out for the olympic team?

whos to say both cant be chosen?
tell you one thing, id rather see iverson than ridnour

chris paul gets injured, cant run for months/years
HALF THE TEAM gets injured and cant play

you cant omit someone from team simply because they might become injured (unless its someone like camby or livingston)

Sun Mar 05, 2006 10:46 am

Yeah, assuming he doesnt have any serious injurys he will be an important vet on the US team hopefully an maybe he will have developed more range too like a 3 point shot, seems like Payton has, not to say that he can't knock down 3's now 'cause he can, i mean like a proper 3pt shooter

Sun Mar 05, 2006 10:47 am

I meant to say to stop getting off topic. You said he doesn't have to start? Who will start and produce the same and if not prduce them same, whos going to fill that scoring void? Webber?
