March 1, 2006 — The Chicago Bulls announced today it has waived forward Tim Thomas.
The Bulls’ roster now stands at 13.
Thomas appeared in three games with the Bulls this season and averaged 4.3 ppg and 1.3 rpg in 10.7 mpg.
The 6-10, 235-pounder came to Chicago via trade with the New York Knicks on October 4, 2005

The important thing is, his contract comes off the books at the year's end.

That would be the case whether he was waived or not.

I think that was established once the deadline passed and no deal had come to fruition. It's good that he'll have a chance to play this season but from the Bulls' point of view, the benefits will be coming at the end of the year.

Once the trade deadline was over and they got no offers for Thomas, they didnt want to waive him right away becuase if he was to be signed after he was waived up to today, he would have been eligible to play in the playoffs if w/e team he signed on made it. All in all, chicago didnt wanna get screwed over.

I don't know if they're really be screwing themselves over there though. It's not like they've had any use for him this year so any way you look at it, it's no real loss.

He was either gonna be cut or stayed not playing. It was expected that he'd be waived.

4ppg for 11mill? that is a pretty good deal. Will definatelly take some cap off CHi.

He's probably heading to Phoenix. Long shot: San Antonio

Maybe the Knicks can sign him back, he "fits" right in there..

I thought he was bought out....not waived..only thing is that he has to go to a western team
Thu Mar 02, 2006 11:52 pm
If he's waived, that means he'll get all the money the Bulls own him. Ergo, the deal has been made that he'll go to the Western conference team.

Even if he's signed by a team, should he be signed he wont be on their playoff roster. Deadline for that was March 1. BTW, Any signing after that will not allow the player to play in the playoffs.
