Stupidest and Smartest NBA Players

Thu Feb 23, 2006 8:23 am

Not sure if this has been discussed before, but I find this subject random and intriguing. My definition of 'stupidity' would be lack of professionalism, make mistakes, lack of education, not smart when it comes to dealing with finances & people, and being socially awkward or say stupid shit in interviews.

From my readings over the years of NBA players, from what I remember, Shawn Kemp and Tracy McGrady has been known to be one of the stupidest NBA players of recent time. Though Shaq has been mentioned before, I don't know if that's just based on physical observation that he's "all brawn and no brains." I wouldn't be surprised if LeBron or Darius Miles were one of the more stupid players. I see a common trend with high school students...

As for the smarter guys, I keep hearing about Tim Duncan, Grant Hill, and Ray Allen. And just recently Adonal Foyle.

Though it's a completely random and potentially useless thread, I'd like to hear thoughts on what people think about the education and lack thereof of NBA players. Discuss.

Yea T-mac is pretty stupid..i remember once he was in a interview with some reporter and he asked him a question that included numbers (small ones..) and he was counting with his fingers...I heard Channing Frye is smart..

Emeka Okafor got his degree from Connecticut in 3 years insted of 4. He must be a little bit smart.

Adonal Foyle and Tim Duncan also come to mind... Grant Hill is class, as well...

Michael Ruffin of teh Wizards is pretty eloquent, as well...

Unavoidably racist input: Statistically speaking, most of teh guys in the NBA who wore gangsta outfits prior to teh dress code and came from ghetto environments aren't exactly your Nobel Prize candidates.

there was this tv show with some of the rookies in the league, and emeka okafor was super smart on that show

I didn't try to make a conclusion; it's what I've heard or read over the years.

Whichever's significant  I just hear names, and an association of "smart" or "stupid" attached to it.

Vince Carter got excelent greats in high school. Could have jump right into the NBA, but because of his love for education, he went to college.

Shawn Marion is hilarious to listen to. He starts off talking fine for the first 30 seconds, you can understand everything clearly and it's all good... then it descends into this bizarre mumbling that is absolutely impossible to decipher. I watched an interview he did for a Dunks DVD with about 6 other people, and every one of them looked at each other like "what the fuck..." about 40 seconds into his interview.

I don't know if that's a sign of intelligence though.
