I've always thought Shaq was a great centre but at the moment as he's gotten older he's lost alot of his mobility and has become a bit lazy on D....
So who is the best centre in the league now?
In my opinion it is Big Ben being such a defensive supremasy and being able to rebound like he does and also swat shots.
He can't really make any points but he's just a supreme defender..

Hmm... interesting. I can't really rank them, but I guess my top 5 would be in no order:
Brad Miller, Ben Wallace, Marcus Camby, Shaquille O'Neal, Yao Ming *shudders*.
I'm sure there's someone I'm missing. In that case, replace Yao with whomever that is.
Tue Feb 14, 2006 10:32 pm
I would say Tim Duncan but most people say he's a PF, I think he is both. They got decent centers besides Ben like Pau, Yao and Z. Nobody is really far above the rest.
Tue Feb 14, 2006 10:44 pm
Ben Wallace? Ben Wallace? The guy who averages less than 8 PPG? Over Yao? Hello!
Tue Feb 14, 2006 10:46 pm
Isn't Pau Gasol a PF on paper as well (like Duncan)? Wright starts at C right?
My picks would be Brad Miller and Benji Wallace, Shaq (really aging) and Camby (injury prone) right behind that.
Tue Feb 14, 2006 10:55 pm
if it ain't my boy Pryz-bizz, then it's gotta be Marcus Camby when he's healthy....Shaq is there....as is Big Ben, as is Brad Miller....Yao would be there too....let's hope Bucks elect not to keep Magloire & Bogut joins that list
otherwise it's Pryz-bizz all the way

I forgot about that for a sec. Oh well. I think the NBA is starving for good centers.

What about Amare? When hes fit doesnt he start at center for the suns?
That guy is as good as anyone in the league when hes fit....
but apart from him BWallace, Yao, Brad Miller and Ilgauskas would be my picks (and camby if he can stay on the court)
Just my 2 cents

No way would I put Z up there with those other names..
Shaq, Camby, Brad Miller, Ben Wallace and Yao

Except that the question was, who is the best center
at the moment.
Top 5
healthy centers so far this season:
1. Tim Duncan
2. Zydrunas Ilgauskas
3. Mehmet Okur
4. Alonzo Mourning
5. Channing Frye

Amares primary position is PF. He played center last year because they didn't have any.
When he gets back the lineup will be:
C- Kurt Thomas
PF- Amare Stoudemire
SF- Shawn Marion
SG- Jimmy Jackson
PG- Steve Nash
Atleast thats what I think
Wed Feb 15, 2006 12:56 am
I don't think Jimmy Jackson will be much apart of the rotation anymore. And as far as we know, Kurt will start at center. But personally i wouldn't be suprised at all if they go small ball again. Especially with Diaw's emergence.

I'd say Amare.
I think he'll still be C when he's 100%, since their offense initiates (well it did when Amare was healthy) with a PG-C pick & roll into the paint with shooters beyond the arc. Thomas can hit out to 17', but not out to 29'.
I love Ben Wallace, but to be the best in the league at something you have to play both ends of the court and he's a defensive specialist, you certainly can't run an offense based on him in the post.

Duncan's a PF. Nazr or that Nesterovic play C for the Spurs.
Frye's a PF too.

they can run the same pick and roll plays with him at PF.

I don't know if you watch the nba, but if you put Shaq/Yao/Big Ben under Frye...
Maybe you consider those 3 unhealthy right now.. i dunno i hope so
Camby was definetly awsome this season before his injuries..
He was getting 15-16 points, grabbing 12 rebounds, blocking 3 shots and dishing out assists too!
I'll put him in the same level as ben wallace, not as intense but Camby is better on offense..
I always thought Big Z was a true center, he plays pretty well, his stats don't show it..
Shaq, Yao are pretty equivalent right now, 20points, 10rebounds, 1.5 blocks
Mehmet Okur, Brad Miller are not bad, decent rebounders, starts at C, shoots the jumpers..
Then you have Duncan/Pau...
Top 5 Centers
Shaq, Yao, Mehmet, Big Ben, Brad Miller

1. B. Wallace
2. Z. Ilgauskas(look at his teams results, his stats and all of your questions should be answered)
3. Yao Ming
4. Marcus Camby
5. Brad Miller
I can't believe you put B. Miller over Ilgauskas. When you play in such weak as Sacramento currently is, you can play for stats, cause the coach allows you to, plus, you still can't make it to the playoffs. While the Cavs are one of the leading teams in the NBA and fights for the top positions.
And still, you look at their stats, and you see, that Z's stats are BETTER. Z scores more, gets more rebounds, blocks more shots and ect. +as I said, he plays in a better team. So don't be redicolous.

There are only 3 REAL Centers in the league, 4 if you count Duncan, whoi has all teh tools to be a 5, but does not start in the position.
1. Shaq - He's still the best, albeit not as dominant. Just wait and see when and if he's healthy in the playoffs.
2. Yao - Height alone is the factor here.
3. Ilgauskas - Height and inside presence make him a true Center.
All the rest are just PF's masquerading as Centers, using certain strengths to cover glaring weaknesses.
Brad Milled has teh body and size of a 5, but he plays like a 4.
Pau is not assertive or strong enough to be a pivot.
Camby is a weakling who uses his athleticism to survive at the position.
Big Ben is a monster but no TRUE Center can be 6' 9" past the Big Bill era.
And if I see Mehmet rated above Ben Wallace one more time I'll shred my degrees...

if we're talking about "true" centers.. i would say shaq
hybrid speaking-
even if he's having a bad year by his standards, I believe that Duncan is the most well rounded player
statistically speaking my choice is Camby
lol wtf is Frye doing on a top 5 list? can i get some of that bud
Wed Feb 15, 2006 9:51 am
1.Shaq
2.Yao
3.Ilgauskas
4.Camby
5.Okur
6.Wallace
7.Miller
A considerable distance between Okur and Wallace.
Wed Feb 15, 2006 10:02 am
5.Okur
6.Wallace
