I hate Steven A. Smith!

Is it just me, or is this guy not the most annoying analyst on the ESPN staff? He gets into these huge arguments with former NBA players like he knows more than they do... honestly, I think he needs to just pipe down and let the real professionals do the talking.

I'd find it quite entertaining. I haven't seen any of his interviews, but I like the idea of him arguing with former NBA players.

Tue Jan 17, 2006 9:59 am

yep, I'd have to agree with Jae....I actually don't mind him....it's always good for a laugh to see some big mouth or thinks he knows everything about every topic....he made the past draft even more entertaining....the way he was hazing guys like Villanueva and he was only an earshot away was awesome

Tue Jan 17, 2006 10:14 am

I'd like to see him do that to Barkley...

I like it mainly because he's not the type to suck up or sugar up anything. He tells you exactly how it is and if you like it or not it doesnt matter to him.

Tue Jan 17, 2006 10:46 am

yea funny how he ripped charlier villenuva on draft night and hasnt spoke 1 word bout him to this day

Tue Jan 17, 2006 10:48 am

sometimes he's good, but the majority of the time i hate him

Tue Jan 17, 2006 10:51 am

The thing I like about him is that you never know what he is gonna say. He can either bash a player constantly (ex. Rasho and Olowakandi) or actually say smart things.

Sometimes he may be wrong but at least he's honest, you can't really fault a guy for that. I've seen so many of those analysts tippy toe around topics where I feel they arent telling me the truth about what they reeeeally think, whether it be wrong or right.

Take risks.

I wish I was Steven A. Smith. He's the only person besides Michael Jordan that I wish I would be.

Tue Jan 17, 2006 12:06 pm

he overs it a lot....

Tue Jan 17, 2006 12:13 pm

He's good, but sometimes he goes waaaaaaaaaay over the top.

Tue Jan 17, 2006 12:26 pm

I don't like him. Too often he tries to be insightful, clever and controversial all at once and it just doesn't work. Many of his comments seem pre-prepared and he seems more concerned with trying to make a witty remark about players than actually offering something more insightful. Barkley pulls that off most of the time but even that gets tired after a while. There's a simple rule when it comes to comedy. When everything tries to be funny, it usually isn't.

You raise a good point and I can certainly respect that, but just because one boldly blurts out rubbish doesn't take away from the fact they're blurting out rubbish. ;) Does Steven A Smith know a thing or two about basketball? Absolutely. But, in my opinion at least, he focusses too much on being entertaining and sacrifices better contributions in the name of entertainment. He might be saying what he really thinks but that doesn't mean what he's thinking is genius.

Or maybe he's just got the kind of personality that irritates me. He's not my favourite analyst.

Yes, and that's why I don't like him. He thinks he's right, but he's often wrong.

Just give the mic to Greg Anthony because he knows what he's talking about.

Tue Jan 17, 2006 1:18 pm

Maybe if SMith didn't take himself so seriously and tried not making his commentary a pissing match, he would be half decent

that's probably the difference with TNT's crew and why they are the best. they have perspective.

Anthony was awesome until they put him in that studio with Legler and Smith

Tue Jan 17, 2006 8:57 pm

Haven't seen much of him but from what I've seen, I think he is exactly what AG and Andrew says he is.

Tue Jan 17, 2006 11:38 pm

The guy who I least like on ESPN is Stuart Scott (or maybe that guy from Rome is burning). Steven A. may be annoying sometimes but thats just how it is.

Tue Jan 17, 2006 11:48 pm

kenny smith and charles barkley is much more entertaining than steven in my opinion.. kenny seems to tell the truth, and charles just comes up with the jokes but with some truth behind it

but i can tolarate Steven A. Smith.. its just sometimes he appears to be too 1 sided which ain't good at times. You wanna feel there is an unbiased thought about something
