NEW YORK, Dec. 1, 2005 – The Cleveland Cavaliers’ LeBron James and the Los Angeles Clippers’ Elton Brand today were named Eastern Conference and Western Conference Players of the Month, respectively, for games played in November.
James led the Cavaliers to a 10-4 month, marking the first time the team posted 10 or more wins in November since 1977-78 and only the third time in the franchise’s history. James, averaging 28.4 points on 48.9 percent shooting, 6.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 1.64 steals, scored 25 or more points in 10 of 14 games. In a 123-120 win over the Sixers on Nov. 19, James recorded his first triple-double of the season, with 36 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists.
Averaging 23.7 points on 56.0 percent shooting, 10.7 rebounds and 2.7 blocks, Brand led the Clippers to a 10-5 record and first place in the Pacific Division. He is the only player in the league to rank in the top 10 in points and rebounds and ranks fourth in field goal percentage. With 10 double-doubles (points-rebounds) this month, Brand became the franchise’s all-time leader in double-doubles with 182.
NEW YORK, Dec. 1, 2005 – Channing Frye of the New York Knicks and Chris Paul of the New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets today were named the Eastern and Western Conference T-Mobile Rookies of the Month, respectively, for games played in November.
Frye, the eighth overall pick in the 2005 NBA Draft, ranks second in scoring (14.2 ppg), field goal percentage (.511 percent) and blocks (.85 bpg) and third in rebounding (6.1 rpg) among rookies. Frye recorded 20-plus points in three consecutive games from Nov. 16-20, becoming the first Knick rookie to do so since Gerald Wilkins during the 1985-86 season and the first New York player to do so off the bench since Latrell Sprewell during the 1998-99 season.
Paul, the fourth overall pick in the 2005 NBA Draft, leads all rookies in scoring, assists, steals and minutes, averaging 16.4 points, 6.8 assists, 2.0 steals and 36.7 minutes during November. Paul, the Hornets’ leader in scoring, assists, steals and minutes, ranks fifth in the NBA in steals and twelfth in assists overall.
