Does a triple double also count as a double double?

Tue Jan 14, 2003 10:30 pm

When e.g. Jason Kidd has 23 points, 10 rebounds and 13 assists, does this also increase the double-double-total by one or just his triple double?

Before this game, he has, lets say 10 double doubles and 1 triple double.
After the game ,does he have 11 and 2 or 10 and 2?

You could also count it as three double-doubles.
23 points 10 rebounds
23 points 13 assists
10 rebounds 13 assists

I believe a triple-double only counts as a triple-double when totalling such statistics, although two thirds of a triple-double is a double-double. :)

You mean, 3 double doubles count as 2 triple doubles?!

Thu Jan 16, 2003 12:50 pm

Mathematically yes, in reality no.

no guys

No, he means if Jason Kidd has 5 double doubles and 1 triple double for the season and records another triple double, do his stats change to 6 double doubles and 2 triple doubles, or does just the triple double count increase, leaving him with 5 double doubles and 2 triple doubles.

The answer, I'm sorry to say, I do not know.

Oh...

I sent an e-mail to david_stern@nba.com. I hope there is a reply on the way...

I admit I'm not 100% sure, but I did answer seriously earlier:

Which would mean if he records another triple-double, that would be one more in the triple-doubles column only.

No, when you get a Triple Double, it counts as double double, but it will add just one double double to be exactly, I wanted to make sure so I went and count Kidd's Double Double and it won't be complete without the triple doubles, well, I needed to make sure. That's a tricky question.

OK, we have correction/confirmation. :)

Let's count, Kobe has 20 DD and 5 TD so far, he will get another TD very soon, so just keep an eye on him, see if 1TD also counts as a DD.

yes it counts as a double double also....

you have to get a double double, before you can get a triple double... understood people!

This one takes place in the make-believe kingdom of France.

I'm confused with all this posts, I think I'm seeing double...or triple!...

Let the Kobe watch begin...
