Penny Hardaway's return?
by: Alex Rice
Larry Brown has announced his starting PG of the New York Knicks. It will not be Marbury or Crawford. It will be the former superstar Penny Hardaway. Penny, many whom believe is way beyond his prime, is a perfect defensive, tall, PG Larry Brown loves.
Close sources tell us that Jamal Crawford is being discussed in a three way proposed deal that will send Crawford to the Nuggets, Nene to the Bulls, and Curry to NY.

I got it off a mesage board. I betch Penny will start for like the first half of the season.

Wow!
As a new Bulls fan

, i wouldnt mind seeing Nene suit up for Chi-Town, but still, i would prefer if curry stays.
and a good chance to star for penny. unfortunatly Crawford gets dropped

I love Penny. I've always loved his style of play. Let's hope Hardaway shows flashes of good 'ol Penny.

Well, Grant Hill did it and I don't see why Penny can't do the same. If I'm not mistaken I think that this will be Penny's first starting role since playing for Orlando. Not sure.

Penny had injuries problems in the last few years and when given decent minutes, he is very productive. As for the starting PG thing, it would be nice to see him again playing the way like he did back in the Magic days. But I still think Marbury will be the Knicks starting PG.
Emiliano: Penny did starts when he was playing with the Suns.

you got a point there emil... good luck to him, thats all i can say

Hopefully this is true. Penny can revamp his career and end it off with a bang. Jamaal will fit well in Denver. Melo can always use help.

the knicks are a complete mess. that's all i have to say.

Nene to the bULLS IS A GOOD THING! mmmm didn't the knicks give a lot just to get jamal crawford a couple of years ago and they are now getting rid of him? lol
my best wishes to Penny!

The Knicks didnt give anything to get Crawford. He was signed as a free agent.
And i suppose i would rather lose Curry over Chandler.

well with this kinda news the knicks management better get ready for a lifetime supply of kleenex for starbury

Assuming this does happen:
Good idea removing Crawford for Curry.
But I dont see Penny starting for more than 10 games, especially at the Point.
I love the guy and would love to see him there....but I think they would be better off with something like:
C Curry
PF Sweetney
SF Q Rich
SG Marbury
PG Nate Rob
or
SG Ariza
PG Marbury

This is Larry Brown's team....no way is Nate Robinson starting. You have to be 25+ to be able to play on Larry's team.

Dont believe any Real GM rumours until they come on Hoopshype, Insidehoops, ESPN, Fox and every other basketball sight around before you believe them.
Larry must be off his fucking head to start Penny at PG when he has one of the best playmakers in Starbury. Start Penny at SG and get him to create more than shoot maybe but not have him start at PG.
I hope for Denver's sake they dont get Jamal Crawford or it'll be a shot fest with Melo, Boykins, Dre and Lenard.
Curry will be yet another Knick with a huge contract, soon someone's going to shoot Isiah down.

My 90s sensibilities would kind of like to see it happen, though I question the decision. Penny could probably still be quite effective if he can remain healthy, but his health problems seemed to flare up against last year. It's been discussed before, but it's sad to see how he's been reduced to an afterthought and "could have been".
Mon Oct 03, 2005 7:25 pm
Andrew, knowing your a Bulls fan, who would you rather? Nene or Curry?
Mon Oct 03, 2005 7:27 pm
Eddy Curry. He's familiar with the system and the rest of the team and I consider him to have more potential while already being a good centre.
Mon Oct 03, 2005 8:30 pm
I think Marbury is more suited to being a SG than a PG. His assist number are huge but he doesn't penetrate the lane much and often goes into a stictly passing mode or a strictly shooting mode. He doesn't get his assists with great PG instincts. He's a great scorer and the Knicks should give him every opportunity to score and play him at SG. He'd probably prefer it that way too. Penny could be very effective as a PG the way Ron Harper was. I hope the Knicks get Curry and incorporate him in every possession, cos he has the potential to be a major scorer. And if anyone is going to get some D and rebounds out of him its Larry Brown.
Mon Oct 03, 2005 9:08 pm
Isiah is a dumbass. He's signed James to a long term deal that will rape the Knicks salary cap, and now he's pursuing Curry, who like James, is lazy.
Mon Oct 03, 2005 10:11 pm
Penny is one my favourite players of the ninties, so I'd be happy for him to get the starting role and this is the chance to prove that he's not a has been. I still have hope for the guy.
Mon Oct 03, 2005 11:28 pm
No surprise there. Brown is planning to use Starbury in SG spot the way he used AI as a SG back in Philly.
Mon Oct 03, 2005 11:33 pm
Penny was my favorite player for many years. It's quite a surprise and it would be awesome to see him run at the point. Realistically, though, I can't see it happening. I hope he doesn't get injured or limited by his knee again.

i really don't know why everyone wants curry. His health is still up in the air. Do the knicks need anther player who might not play just like allan houston??
