why chicago didnt retire his jersey well in fact his the rebounding machine of that team???does scottie retire in chicago if yes when?

Mon Aug 08, 2005 10:28 pm

I'd hope the Bulls retire Pippen's #33 in the near future; I don't see why they shouldn't (or wouldn't). I don't know about Dennis Rodman though. He only played for the Bulls for three years, though his contributions were an important factor in at least two of those titles. He wasn't quite himself (in terms of basketball, at least) during the 1997 campaign.

But he leads the rebounding department for those three seasons with the bulls...does attitude affects the retirement issue??if yes y?if he plays really great in terms of basketball is concern I mean only basketball...

The honour of having your jersey retired is generally reserved for players who meant a lot to a team for a long time; Rodman was only a Bull for 3 seasons.

If the Miami heat can retire the jersey of a player who never played for them, then surely the Bulls can retire Pip and Rod's numbers... :|

That move was just so damn classy, every other team should've followed that example. Think of Gretzky in the NHL.

then lebron james wouldn't get to wear 23 ;)

I agree. Players who contribute to the team for long periods of time: Stockton, Jordan, Robinson, Elliot, Magic and a lot more

I love how he included Sean Elliot in a group of greats

Important to the team, he really was. Plus, he had Spur pride and returned after a serious health issue. Greatness in measured not only on the court, but also beyond. (Y)

He's hardly in the same group as Magic, MJ and such.

True. But he's in the group of people who were damn worth having their jerseys retired.

No doubt (Y)

But a career average of 14 and 4 doesn't get you onto lists that include MJ, Magic and guys like that.

See two posts above... it's not about skill, that is undisputaby different. It's about worthiness to have the jersey retired.

Rodman also will not be the hall of fame.

Thu Aug 11, 2005 2:32 am

I think David Stern would personally burn that jersey if Rodman ever retires any jersey. I wonder if that would also happen to Artest?

Thu Aug 11, 2005 3:17 am

I don't think Artest will ever do anything worthy enough to get him into the Hall Of Fame, but I think Stern's a professional so if that's the case he'd just go with it.

If this statement is true "Players who contribute to the team for long periods of time" why Kemp did not retire his jersey in Seattle?

Because Kemp have not officially announce his retirement yet. Also, Kemp is consider to make a comeback this season. So he probably won't retire until 2008.

Because it's generally the case, not a rule or guarantee.

If Bulls don't retire Rodman's #91, maybe Detroit should retire his #10?

I'm surprised Indy hasn't posted why Artest is probably going to be a hall of famer with 12 championships yet...

I'm guessing he thinks Danny Granger will take his roster spot in a year or two and go on to win those 12 championships for himself.
