Mon Jul 25, 2005 8:05 am

Mon Jul 25, 2005 8:08 am

Mon Jul 25, 2005 8:28 am

But don't believe these Croatina reporter. They were the one who said Roko has signed a 2 year deal with us. So don't believe it yet.

Mon Jul 25, 2005 8:33 am

That's fucked up, but glad nothing's confirmed yet. At least we have something to gain if we do lose him in the end.

It also looks like Bonner will not be back as a Raptor.

The NBA has pushed back the start of its free agent signing period, but the extra time may not help Matt Bonner reach a deal with the Raptors.

Kenny Grant, Bonner's agent, said yesterday three other teams have called to inquire about the Red Rocket, who is a restricted free agent.

Bonner, a fan favourite, and the Raptors reportedly are not close on a potential salary figure.

With the new collective bargaining agreement still being finalized, the NBA postponed tomorrow's scheduled opening of free agency signings. The players' association is hoping signings can begin next week.

Bonner, meanwhile, seems ready to test the market. The Raptors have the right to match any offer Bonner receives.

"Matt has certainly made an effort to meet them, but the team has done nothing from Day 1," Grant said.

Bonner, running a basketball camp at home in New Hampshire, has made no secret of his desire to return to Toronto.

"I guess there is a certain level of disappointment (a deal hasn't been reached), but it's part of the profession," said Bonner, who endeared himself to fans with his hard work last season. "I love Toronto and I love the fans. It's an unbelievable city and I'd love to be back."

Raptors general manager Rob Babcock confirmed no deal is imminent with Bonner, who made $385,000 US last season. No talks are scheduled between Grant and Babcock.

"We feel Matt has a certain value, but (the Raptors) don't agree and other teams don't agree (with the Raptors)," Grant said.

Babcock, meanwhile, would not confirm the team has reached a three-year deal with second-round pick Roko Ukic, even though reports indicate just that. Babcock simply said talks are very positive with the Croatian point guard.

Babcock also said talks are going well with Spanish point guard Jose Manuel Calderon, who has been linked to the Raptors and the Detroit Pistons recently.

If the Raptors sign Calderon, that likely means Omar Cook, who joined the team on a 10-day contract at the end of last season, will not find employment here.

Forward Pape Sow, the Raptors' other restricted free agent, is expected to sign with the team when the CBA is completed.

BRIEFLY

First-round pick Charlie Villanueva, who missed the Minnesota summer league with a strained right groin muscle, stayed busy during his time off.

"He's doing fine," Billy Ceisler, Villanueva's agent, said.

"He has been working out pretty hard. I'm sure if it was the regular season, he would have been out on the court."

Fellow first-rounder Joey Graham also missed the Minnesota league with a strained right calf.

Well he was a fan favorite but no loss to us.

screw bonner. greedy SOB. As for Ukic, he should think of the contract he'll be receiving when he does well. Just sign a 2 year deal with the raps then, if he does well, he'll be making A LOT more than what the spanish team is offering... DAMN IT EVERYONE HATES THE RAPTORS

Don't worry. We got Slokar instead of Bonner now. He is like a Matt Bonner but taller and better.

Yeah, real greedy wanting your market value (which is higher than the 385,000 a year).

As for Slokar, he's too soft in the paint.

you ARE bitter today, aren't you?

hehe, nobody believed me when I said Roko would stay in Europe... oops.

Mon Jul 25, 2005 9:34 am

Iz all good. Well like I said, don't believe them reporters yet. The Croatian reptorters said Ukic signed a deal with the Raps for 2 years worth 4 million or something around the area. By Tau MAYBE signing Ukic, this might mean Calderon to Toronto. I wouldn't mind him. As for Bonner, I would sign him for a 3 year deal worth 5 million dollars. He'll be a role player for his whole life. He doesn't need no Adonal Foyle contract.

Some generally unpleasant person just asked me to whipe up vomit that their troglodyte child spewed all over the waiting room. So yeah, I am bitter. And I wish to god some of these fuckers that get kids would have used a condom.

Yeah, but mostly because my parents raised me pretty well, and at no time spent time in the waiting room of a hospital either drunk, drugged or both. See? That's where they differ from the clientel occupying the room next to me.

Ah, yes. But our parents are always excluded anyway, so my point was ivalid either way...

Mon Jul 25, 2005 10:34 am

Now let's change the subject here shall we ?

Mon Jul 25, 2005 8:46 pm

Indeed. What is Ukic' buyout clause now? :?:

Mon Jul 25, 2005 8:49 pm

I'm assuming if he was so eager to sign a Euro contract that the buyout won't be too high....it's not like he's a 16 or 17 year old youngster who is pressured into it or doesn't know any better....the buyout shouldn't be too bad....

Mon Jul 25, 2005 8:52 pm

the buyout shouldn't be too bad....

Luis Scola signed a contract with ethe same team, Tau, after he got drafted and now his buyout is 14.5 million dollars...

Different times, different ideas... Now flattery just opens up some doors. You still have to walk past them yourself.

Mon Jul 25, 2005 11:17 pm

I'd imagine walking through doors would be more effective then walking past them :P
