Hughes signs with Cleveland?

That's a pretty big signing. Great news for Lebron and Cav fans.

Fri Jul 08, 2005 3:38 pm

i don't understand, i thought he was doing great in washington. They did well in the playoffs. I think Hughes could play a bigger role in washinton than cleavland. The cavaliers have made it clear that Lebron is going to be the main guy, as opposed to washinton was more like a 3 men team with arenas and jamison. this is a surprise to me.

hehe riot...
so says nbadraft.net: http://nbadraft.net/prevenas044.asp

i'm not sure how reliable this is but if it were to be true...

hughes is a defensive and talent upgrade overall though as the article mentions, perimeter shooting is a cavs big weaknesses, which also is hughes weakness

eesh for the wiz...

Good move by Cavs. But Hughes FG% is too low. Maybe Cavs need his defensive talent.

Fri Jul 08, 2005 3:55 pm

Whatever Cavs jus need someone to help out Bron

Fri Jul 08, 2005 4:07 pm

That's right, Hughes will be a great addition to Cleveland if he goes. I was kind of hoping that the Cavs wouldn't get him so that way they would be forced to go after Mobley then if they didn't get Mobley then they'll have to go after Bonzi which would help Memphis alot

Fri Jul 08, 2005 4:31 pm

well, they had to sign -a- star with all that cap room, but i dont think hes the best fit for the team. Will be an interesting unit though.

Fri Jul 08, 2005 4:47 pm

maybe hughes wants to go back to point

That's what I think too man, McInnis won't do the job... you get a great defensive player with Hughes and he's got that nice close jumper too (Y)

I'm thinking the Cavs aren't done FA Shopping yet, they'll still be lookin at Antonio Daniels and Earl Watson to fill in the point spot, so it'll probably be Hughes at the 2, LBJ at 3 and AD or EW playing point.

Fri Jul 08, 2005 5:59 pm

sucks for washington. thought he was happy there.

Fri Jul 08, 2005 6:10 pm

happy and a fat paycheck are two different things.

Fri Jul 08, 2005 6:30 pm

If this is true, I'm happy for the Cavs. Finally! the landed a good player to play alongside Lebron. However, I think think this is a long time fix because he's not a pure shooter. I would have chosen Bobby Simmons over him because he's a year younger, a better overall shooter and has more upside than Hughes. Nevertheless, a good sign for the Cavs.

I think Hughes is a much better player than Simmons. Hughes is capable of scoring 22/6/6 every night while Simmons plays more like an SF than SG. Moreover, Hughes is a great defender, and faster. Though i agree Hughes is not a pure shooter. But he's certainly a better score than Simmons. The questions is though, does the Cavs need a score like Hughes or a relieable shooter like Redd, who's already taken. The Cavs might need to find a back up SG who's a pure shooter, like Jacobsen or something. AND still have the money to sign big Z and another PG.

Fri Jul 08, 2005 7:53 pm

Do they still have money to sign a PG and then Big Z (or a free agent C)??

If they have ,they will be a strong team imo :)

Fri Jul 08, 2005 7:55 pm

So much for the Wizards' promising future if this comes to pass. While they'll still have Arenas and Jamison, the one-two-three punch would have kept Washington on the rise (or at the very least, about where they were) for some time. On Cleveland's side, Hughes may be seen as a consolation prize having been denied the opportunity to sign Michael Redd but that's not giving Hughes enough credit.

Fri Jul 08, 2005 7:57 pm

I think that if this signing comes to pass, then it's almost certain that jasikevicius has already agreed with the Cavs as well. With Sarunas and Larry as teh Cavs' new backcourt and LBJ calling the shots, provided Z stays, Cleveland is going to have one heck of a starting lineup... (Y)

Agreed.

It's good to see the Cavs signing a star player in Larry Hughes. They have to sign Z or else

 Mini LeBron~~ Cavs will have at least 40/13/13 from Double.L.
Jacobson would be solid... but I think people might be counting out Luke "Frodo" Jackson, he's just been injured this past season.

Fri Jul 08, 2005 9:53 pm

I am a cavs fan and i am EXTATIC, or whatever the word is!
Finally we have someone good besides LBJ!
Ilgauskas should resign and we might still be able to get Shareef and Antonio Daniels....!!!!!
That would be SICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Fri Jul 08, 2005 9:58 pm

I want Shareef to stay with Portland cos i want him to be there while i'm hopping off the Spurs bandwagon onto the Trailblazers bandwagon

Fri Jul 08, 2005 10:54 pm

Simmons is bigger, has better durability, rock solid jumpshot and is hustler by nature. Plus, you can get two of his kind for 12 million per season which is what Cavs will pay to Hughes.

No, "you" can't. "You" don't have money. Game over. Put in another penny.

Sat Jul 09, 2005 12:39 am

Wow. I really didn't see this one coming :P If they get AD and resing Z, that lineup could've be better than the Pacers (now wait for Indy to reply  )

Sat Jul 09, 2005 12:52 am

if this goes through, then this is a great signing by the Cavs....I like the ex-St. Louis star freshman a lot more than Redd (Y)
