Reggie Miller and Coaching..

Sun Jun 12, 2005 9:37 pm

As most of you know,Reggie Miller was a great star in the NBA, but after 18 seasons he retired. Without a championship. I'm thinking that he might become a coach, and maybe Coach the pacers towards a championship, that he wanted. Do you guys think this is a possibilty for Reggie?

Sun Jun 12, 2005 9:40 pm

Tell ya the truth I don't think he's going to go that deep back into the game this fast. He just retired and I'm sure he wants to spend time with his family or take some time off. I could deffinately see Reggie coaching in the future or even a position in management one day, but not quite yet.

Sun Jun 12, 2005 9:46 pm

Yeah i know what you mean, but I dident exactly mean he would coach like in the next 2 seasons or so, but he would maybe down the road.

Sun Jun 12, 2005 9:53 pm

Oh ok, well then yeah I'm sure he would. Or maybe he'll pull a Jordan and try and get into Ownership somewhere

Sun Jun 12, 2005 9:57 pm

You all know that there's a 77,8% chance that Reggie comes back for another season, don't you? Call it "The Salley Effect".

Sun Jun 12, 2005 10:02 pm

lets round it up to 78%

Ownership talking with him or something I heard, he made it pretty convincing he's not coming back but I wouldn't be suprised if he did.

Sun Jun 12, 2005 10:02 pm

I don't think he will, he said that there won't be a Jordan thing going on.
Probably rest 1-2 years and come back to Pacers office...

Go Pacers! Go Miller!

Sun Jun 12, 2005 10:05 pm

Kinda sucks how he didn't get a ring though. I'm sure he had several chances to explore his options outside of Indiana but wasn't interested in leaving his team in search for a ring. Shows his class and loyalty to Indiana and the rest of the league.

Hell he might even get a ring as a coach!

Sorry to burst all of your bubbles, but Reggie has 0 interest in coaching. He has said before that he will never coach. Reggie has a quick wit that is perfectly taylored for doing brodcasting. In fact TNT and ESPN were already trying to get him to come on and do some telecasting for the remainder of the playoffs. Reggie is also too much of a witty, public eye type person to be in ownership too. I see him possibly joining Kenny Smith, Charles Barkley and Ernie Johnson in the TNT booth, but also possibly being given some position in the Pacers organization at the same time.

Reggie Miller, the new Indiana Pacers Towel Boy?

Now that you mentioned broadcasting I can actually see him doing that. Maybe take Ernie's spot, he sucks lol.

Mon Jun 13, 2005 12:26 am

he'll probably take some time off and then when he comes back it will probably be as a TV person for Pacers or something....he'll probably do some consultancy for teams who need help with shooting etc....say someone drafts Kennedy Winston for example, they bring in Reggie Miller to give him some pointers....

Mon Jun 13, 2005 12:48 am

Gotta love the Kennedy Winston jokes

I think that he will team up with Karl Malone and Gary Payton to play for the Lakers on a guarantied Championship-team coached by Phil Jackson.

lmao, someone's in La La Land

Payton and Malone dont play for the Lakers and I'm sure that will never happen

I do believe that was a thing called "sarcasm".

Lol@people saying Reggie should play another season. He probably should've stopped like one or two seasons ago to be fair. Although this year was an improvement I guess.

Waits for the Reggie love bus to catch on fire and come flaming through this thread... or just IndyPacers, both the same

Mon Jun 13, 2005 8:57 am

he's doing a film project, apparently
i heard him say this on letterman a while back

Believe it or not, I agree that Reggie shouldn't play another year. He played 18 fantastic years in the NBA, and his last game was amazingly memorable. His exit (with the fans, the pistons, the refs, the announcers, the coaches all standing up and applauding for him for so long) was the best exit ever. Obviously it will be tough not to see him in a Pacers uni next season, but his exit was completley priceless and by far the best ever.

Who would be Barkley's punching bag then? I see him going with ESPN instead, I think ESPN is more professional and more fitting for Reggie.

Mon Jun 13, 2005 10:47 am

Yeah I think he'll take on a coaching vacancy sometime in the near future, he has a lot of playoff experience and that's a great asset as a coach having a player's perpective. But he should take a coupe of months off maybe years to heal his body from so much punishment during the past 18 years.
