portland and it's #3 pick..

Fri Jun 03, 2005 8:35 am

well it's almost certain that milwaukee is going to pick andrew bogut and marvin williams is gonna go to the hawks.. having said that, chris paul is slated to go to the blazers.. but should the blazers really draft him though? if they do there's going to be a big log jam in the point guard spot.. damon stoudamire, sebastian telfair (proclaimed future of the franchise), van exel (though he might be retiring i ain't too sure) throw chris paul in there, how much minutes is he gonna get? in addition that'll probably slow down telfair's growth. i say if they do wanna draft chris paul trade away stoudamire for a swingman and look ahead to the future

They'll probably trade the #3 pick for Charlotte's #5, so that they can land Gerald Green. They'll get something extra from the Bobcats too...

Fri Jun 03, 2005 8:58 am

Interesting, i've read mock drafts with Portland getting Marvin...although that doesn't make much sense either with Miles, Randolph, and SAR in the lineup.

I think Chris Paul is problematic because both he & telfair can only be PGs, neither can slide into the SG slot without guys like Kobe going for 60 against them.

If they do pick a PG w/ the #3 pick, it should be Deron...he has some strength and height to challenge a SG.

They've wanted Gerald Green since before he declared, plus they've seemingly committed the PG position to Telfair.

Fri Jun 03, 2005 12:44 pm

i wonder what the Blazers plans are about Randolph?

Fri Jun 03, 2005 12:49 pm

He's signed through to 2011, so I'm guessing he's in their long term plans. Conversely, Shareef is a free agent this offseason.

Fri Jun 03, 2005 12:51 pm

but they've had problems with Randolph, bad attitude, no defense and such. I've heard they might be looking to unload him.

Fri Jun 03, 2005 12:56 pm

figures i always thought he was overrated

Fri Jun 03, 2005 1:06 pm

he's like a fast version of antione walker and not very good at 3 points though

Fri Jun 03, 2005 1:36 pm

how was he overrated? he had his breakout year last year in the playoffs and continued that into the following season.

randolph is a great low post scorer, great touch around the basket, a developing outside shot, and an above average rebounder... not too much more

coolmac: my goodness- how is walker and randolph the same player?

Fri Jun 03, 2005 1:36 pm

I think they're going to trade Damon Stoudamire for a SG and draft Green.

Fri Jun 03, 2005 1:42 pm

It didn't help that Randolph was injured a good part of the season either. His numbers were down a bit but so were his minutes. He only played 46 games and came off the bench late in the season after coming off the IR for a brief period.

I think it's because they have similar head shapes, and the baby fat

Man, the Hornets got shafted in this draft.

They cant let Portland trade down the order and still get their man in Gerald Green, If I were Allan Bristow i'd have a sudden love affair with Gerald Green's game right about now, make sure Portland dont trade the pick and give themselves a shot at whoever is left from the Bogut/Williams/Paul decision.

Overweight???

I'm not so sure Atlanta will grab Marvin Williams with the #2 pick, though... it doesn't make sense, even though he is considered the best player in the draft... The Hawks need a contributor straight away, and I do believe Marvin will need a season or two to be a franchise guy... plus they're already stacked at the wing with Childress and Smith... My bet is they'll draft Paul if logic prevails... if they go with the best player and let the coach sort out the bottleneck, they'll pick Marvin... Tough choice, though...

A question to you: Who would YOU pick if you were the Hawks' GM?

Fri Jun 03, 2005 6:00 pm

If I were the Hawks I'd take Marvin Willaims. After all, the NBA Draft is all about potential! Plus, they could get more in return if they dealed him away...

Then the Blazers should draft Chris Paul and trade down to get Gerald Green but not take him with only the 3rd pick. Gerald, Telfair and Dolph are gonna be an interesting trio in 3 years!

Fri Jun 03, 2005 6:17 pm

If I'm the Hawks GM, I take Williams and trade Al Harrington for a later pick. Somewhere in the 15-20 range and have a shot at Jarret Jack. I doubt it'd ever eventuate but it's worth a shot.

Fri Jun 03, 2005 10:27 pm

i'd take Williams #1.

I don't think there's any doubt that they're gonna pick Green. Any time a HSDer comes is available, they piss their pants.
