to put things into perspective: imagine if atlanta after their pitiful season doesn't get their lottery pick this year!
any team that loses it's top pick (the #2 pick no less) from the previous year and gets nothing in return is a humongous blow.
they were
forced to draft a pg once the news of the accident surfaced. dwayne wade would probably be wearing a bulls uniform if not for this.
it also shot down the numerous possible trades Paxson was pursuing to get a legit SG for the team. the team had the draft pick and two very serviceable players in jay williams and crawford to dangle.

Bulls were actually offered the #5 pick (wade) for Donyell Marshall & their #7. They got Hinrich with that pick, and traded away Marshall anyway.
Although in their defense, i wouldn't imagine 2 spots in that draft would have meant so much either. They were probably gambling Wade would still be available, and they lost.

what's your source??
there was a lot of speculation on realgm that the bulls were thinking of dealing marshall and their draft pick for TORONTO's pick and some salary.. use the pick to grab wade
williams injury still forced paxson's hand to draft a pg
