Hornets send Armstrong to Dallas

Hornets Trade Darrell Armstrong To Dallas

Dickau
New Orleans - The Hornets have acquired guard Dan Dickau and a 2005 second round draft pick from the Dallas Mavericks in exchange for guard Darrell Armstrong.

“This move helps our team by letting Junior Harrington and Alex Garcia see more playing time,” said Hornets General Manager Allan Bristow. “We see bright futures for both of them and feel very comfortable with them receiving more minutes and continuing to develop.”

Armstrong, who was signed by the Hornets as a free agent on July 29, 2003, averaged 10.6 points and 4.0 assists in 93 total games for the team. He averaged 10.1 points and 4.6 points in 14 games this season.

“I’ve been very impressed with Junior and Alex and they’ve earned this opportunity,” said Hornets Head Coach Byron Scott. “Darrell is a true professional and a great veteran, but he is approaching the end of his career and this move will benefit the Hornets.”

Dickau had appeared in four games with the Mavericks this season, averaging 1.3 points in 4.0 minutes. The 6-0 guard has also played in Atlanta and Portland and holds career averages of 2.9 points and 1.3 assists in 97 games.

“This trade is a great example of how we will continue to make every effort to improve our team,” said Hornets Majority Owner George Shinn. “I’m confident that Allan and his staff are doing everything possible to make our organization better both at present and in the future.”

Nice move by the Mavericks. I love Darrell Armstrong, great guy and a great player.

Sat Dec 04, 2004 9:25 am

Yea, but I wonder will he get playin time with harris, terry, daniels, finley, howard, and all the guards the mavs have that are getting playin time?

Sat Dec 04, 2004 9:26 am

This proves that the Hornets are clearly giving up for this year, just giving their young players a run. But don't see why Armstrong went to Dallas, could be a bad sign for the rookie of the month Devin Harris.

Sat Dec 04, 2004 9:43 am

yea bad move on both sides
hornets traded armstrong, good player but old and dallas basically got him by trading a bad player but now they have too many guards
hmm maybe dickau will blossom for the hornets cuz he prolly get more minutes than in dallas :?:

Sat Dec 04, 2004 9:43 am

this trade makes no sense to me from either end.

dallas is loaded with guards......and NO would honestly rather have dickau then armstrong? sure...show the guy who actually CHOSE to sign with you absolutely no loyalty.....bah

Sat Dec 04, 2004 9:43 am

Title edited.

Nice move by Dallas, and the Hornets will tank the season to get a high draft pick I foresee. (Y)

Dallas just adds depth. I don't think Armstrong will see a lot of playing time since they're loaded with point guards.

Sat Dec 04, 2004 10:44 am

i think the mavs were lookin for at veteran a pg...

Sat Dec 04, 2004 10:54 am

Waste of a pick, they want Harris to develop so he'll get his minutes and Terry will more than likely be the backup.

Armstrong may just be insurance in case the PG's are struggling, but who knows?

hornets traded for mainly the draft pick not dickau

Actually... Dan Dickau did pretty well in the pre season, he had a few good games off the bench and from what I remember 1 or 2 where he scored 15+... my memory is kind of dodgy though, feel free to correct me.

Oh my !!!.....they did it so they can give Harrington and Garcia more minutes....when the heck is JR Smith gonna get some love, he did pretty well in the preseason but now hes getting no respect.....I hate u Byron Scott, play JR u dumbass....not give more minutes to friggin Garcia and Harrington.......u stupid fool :x

How can the Hornets win if they have such a stupid GM and Coach ??

Sat Dec 04, 2004 2:47 pm

eh......they couldn't say the truth, which is:

"We did it to tank the season so we can get a high draft pick"

true but at least say something smart like....we did it so JR SMITH could get more mins....n not look like total idiots n say they did it go give Garcia and Harrington more minutes.

Guess they'll be looking at that Lithuanian guy or Chris Taft or oh yeah the "euro kg" ....

Absolutely. It's been a disappointing start for the Hornets to say the least, but it's just poor form to give up this early. The 1997 Suns made the playoffs after a 0-13 start to the year. The Hornets don't really need the next great player coming out of college to win in the West...or so I would have thought.

As far as Dallas is concerned, they didn't really need to make this trade but having Armstrong as an insurance policy can't hurt.

Sat Dec 04, 2004 5:13 pm

Armstrong is gonna get traded soon. Maybe Houston, or LA

Sat Dec 04, 2004 5:17 pm

It seems like a meaningless trade for both teams IMO. For Dallas, why should they have Armstrong as a 3rd string PG behind Harris and Terry? Maybe they want Armstrong as trade bait for another center maybe? In the Hornets case, I never expected them to play as poorly as they are right now, so maybe they are tanking it, but it's so early in the season, why are they already giving up? If they are tanking it, what good rookie do they hope to get out of the draft next year?

The Hornets need size not another guard...they definitely must planning on making a charge for a big man(maybe take Taft and Villenuva or Sean May).

Personally Id trade B-Diddy and Wesley....get say VC n J-Rose...draft Chris Paul or one of the euro big men or even Taft.

They could use Rose and their pick from Dallas as trade bait to move up into like the 10-15 area....take Hakim Warrick there, he'll add alotta athletism to them and could even give a shot at PF, specially if he packs on some weight he could be like K-Mart.

Dunno thats a strategy I suggest, their lineup for next season should be something like Taft/Dickau, JR/Garcia, VC/Maybe second round pick like Ryan Gomes, Hakim/PJ, Jamaal/Birdman.

I don't think Dallas would've wanted Rose, they already have Stackhouse, Finley and Daniels playing his spot and Rose isn't exactly the most unselfish player

Sun Dec 05, 2004 3:48 pm

Darrel Armstrong will get some minutes, because good veteran players always find some minutes and a way to move up the pecking order. In the playoffs, how can you overlook the guy, he's a total professional, experienced, hustles! Who the hell is Devin Harris? In 20-odd minutes of court time he manages 2.7 assists a game with the Mavs. I can see Amrstrong getting minutes over Harris, and at times Terry too (though only on the off occassion he's having a good night, or during the playoffs) :)

Sun Dec 05, 2004 4:10 pm

thank god the Mavs finally made the right move, this is the best move they made since trading Jason Kidd and Jammal Mashburn  ( :x ) hopefully he can help our bench out *hopes*

Oh nobody, he was just drafted 5th overall this year, that's all. He's only a rookie of the year candidate/ and part of the mavs' future. That's all.

Mazzlow your sig is scaring people.
