who would you put against these crunch time players?

Wed Dec 01, 2004 8:46 am

the situation's the end of the game, score tied at 100-100, on the opposing team you have: (all in their primes, btw)

pg - jerry west
sg - michael jordan
sf - larry bird
pf - tim duncan
c - hakeem olajuwon

what 5 players would you put on them?

my picks: (all of them are in their primes too)

on jerry west - gary payton
on michael jordan - scottie pippen
on larry bird - kevin garnett
on tim duncan - dennis rodman
on hakeem olajuwon - bill russell

Wed Dec 01, 2004 10:01 am

Jerry West < Payton
Michael Jordan < Joe Dumars
Larry Bird < Scottie Pippen
Tim Duncan < Ben Wallace
Hakeem Olujawan < Bill Russell

Wed Dec 01, 2004 10:27 am

Jerry West - John Stockton
Michael Jordan- Alvin Robertson
Larry Bird- Andrei Kirilenko
Tim Duncan- Dennis Rodman
Hakeem Olajuwon- Bill Walton

Wed Dec 01, 2004 10:46 am

Magic Johnson(someone's gotta NOT take the shot) - Gary Payton

Michael Jordan - Michael Jordan?

Larry Bird - Scottie Pippen

Tim Duncan - Dennis Rodman

Wilt Chamberlain - Bill Russell

EDIT: My fault. Just replace Magic with West, and Wilt with Hakeem. I just didn't understand the rules of this game.

on michael jordan - Mitch Richmond
on larry bird - kevin garnett
on tim duncan - dennis rodman
on hakeem olajuwon - bill russell

ok let me explain my list a little.

i would like to have picked stockton for the pg but i had to stick with GP as he was a better one on one defender. the bulk of stocktons steals were on someone he was not guarding.

richmond just seemed to play jordan damn good.

this was the toughest for me. i went with garnett simply cause of his length. if you were to ask me who i would want to put on bird for a full 48 i would pick pippen but with only 1 shot i would take garnett.

rodman could argrevate anyone so i gave him the nod here.

this was my only clear cut choice. imo no one should be listed here except russell as he was just flat out the best big man defender the game has ever seen.

on another note, if i had that starting 5 with 1 shot to go i would go with bird as my main option and jordan just behind that. no one else on this team has the right to shoot over these 2 with the game on the line.

west- pippen
jordan- vernon maxwell
bird- rodman
duncan- david robinson

I'll go with current players...

Jerry West : Ron Artest
Michael Jordan : Kevin Garnett (I think he could keep up)
Larry Bird : Andrei Kirilenko
Tim Duncan : Shaq :? (that could get ugly)
Hakeem Olajuwon : Theo Ratliff ( :?: )

Thu Dec 02, 2004 9:44 am

Rodman on all of them

Thu Dec 02, 2004 9:50 am

Jerry West : Zo
Michael Jordan : Kevin Garnett
Larry Bird : Admiral
Tim Duncan : Shaq
Hakeem Olajuwon : Ewing

Size Matters (Y)

if they didn't all play for hte same team.
pg - jerry west - garnett
sg - michael jordan - garnett
sf - larry bird -garnett
pf - tim duncan - garnett
c - hakeem olajuwon - garnett

:)

pg - jerry west - Bill murray ( he'll be able to slow him down, if u've seen stripes)
sg - michael jordan - ron artest (break some ribs yo)
sf - larry bird - Keith Van Horn (he's white)
pf - tim duncan - daniel santiago (olympics (Y))
c - hakeem olajuwon - bill russell in his prime

Thu Dec 02, 2004 11:48 am

Kevin Garnett would not be able to keep up with Jordan. You're asking a 7-footer to keep up with MJ in his prime?
I think the best would probably be Pippen or Artest...but then again who could stop MJ?

Thu Dec 02, 2004 12:17 pm

on jerry west - pippen
on michael jordan - ron artest-just to put someone, dont think there is someone who can stop MJ
on larry bird - garnett
on tim duncan - bill russell
on hakeem olajuwon - ben wallace

Thu Dec 02, 2004 2:38 pm

Joe Dumars had some pretty good efforts on MJ.....other than that theres no one guy that can stop MJ, slow him down one game, he torches you the next.,.....only team defense works

Maybe i'd put Kobe on MJ, but he'd have to actually play D not the half assed shit he usually gives

You think Garnett couldn't keep up with him because of his height? What kind of reasoning is that....

Thu Dec 02, 2004 3:43 pm

on jerry west - gary payton
on michael jordan - john starks
on larry bird - andrei kirilenko (specially if he keeps improving)
on tim duncan - karl malone
on hakeem olajuwon - bill russell

you think a few inches would prevent him from keeping up? naw. would you say that a 6'0" guy couldn't keep up with a 5'6" guy?

Thu Dec 02, 2004 4:01 pm

on jerry west - steve nash
on michael jordan - bruce bowen
on larry bird - ron artest
on tim duncan - shaq
on hakeem olajuwon - wilt chamberlain

Thu Dec 02, 2004 4:33 pm

Jerry West - Gary Payton
Michael Jordan- TRENTON HASSELL (call me a homer :D )
Larry Bird- Kevin Garnett
Tim Duncan- Dennis Rodman
Hakeem Olajuwon- Bill Russell

Thu Dec 02, 2004 5:03 pm

Jerry West - Muggsy Bogues (too quick hands for Jerry)
Michael Jordan - Ron Artest (well if he screws up at least he can kick Jordan's hiney (y) )
Larry Bird - Kevin Garnett
Tim Duncan - Dennis Rodman
Hakeem Olajuwon - Mutombo (the younger version)

Thu Dec 02, 2004 6:34 pm

Michael Jordan- TRENTON HASSELL

I am not hassell fan!!! he is not good to defense jordan.you must be crazy or sth!!!

Fri Dec 03, 2004 7:23 am

Hey man....Hassell can stop ANYONE.

Kobe, Peja, Carmelo, Lebron, TONY PARKER!, Pierce, Iverson and MJ!

Hassell will keep you in front of you, he will fight threw screens and make sure you NEVER get an open look. He is like Bruce Bowen but he doesn't play dirty like Bowen.

to be fair, i dont think any one player could stop jordan, or bird while we are at it. also this list is a bit flawed anyway. putting hakeem over wilt for the offense is just wrong. i mean in his prime wilt was a scoring machine, he just didnt have a long prime. imo these 3 are the 3 best scorers ever in the game(Some might argue bird cause of his career scoring average but if you watched him play you know that he could have scored a shit load more if he wanted to be more selfish).

Fri Dec 03, 2004 10:58 am

pg - jerry west Gary Payton
sg - michael jordan Eddie Jones :D
sf - larry bird Ron Artest
pf - tim duncan Kevin Garnett
c - hakeem olajuwon Alonzo Mourning

i never claimed that these 5 were the absolute best crunch time players ever, as well, there was never an issue regarding who the better player was, wilt or hakeem.. just wanted to see who people would put on hakeem. :?

Sun Dec 05, 2004 5:19 am

Matter of fact I would put Kareem on him... don't know if he could do much to stop him but then Hakeem might not do much to stop Kareem either... and Kareem can knock down free throws so once Hakeem scores I give the ball to Kareem on the other end..
