I am a huge Bulls fan and I live just outside Chicago in the states and it's all over the news, looks like Mike is ready to sign on for yet another comeback - his second with the bulls. only time will tell, but from what i got off of five - yes five - local news shows it appears to be all but on target, signed, and ready to add to the online rosters...

We've been hearing this story for the last couple of weeks, even read an article about how he played in some pick-up games. I don't think it'll happen (again), but I'd welcome it. People who complain about him messing up his stats etc need to realize basketball's not all about statistics, and if MJ playing 1 more season means more people get to see him play then why not?
Thu Sep 23, 2004 1:57 pm
i think people need to realize that if he does play again he is not playing for the fans, he is playing for himself. wtf do you care if he lowers his career average, are you him? do you gain anything from him having the highest average ever? he plays basketball for himself not for any of us. when he returned with the wiz everyone was saying he sucked, wtf is that shit. just cause he was not the absolute best in the game he sucked? no middle ground for a player who once dominated? if he came back today he would still be good. would he dominate the game? no, but he would be a good player and could definetly help a team.
all that being said i think his time is done and he should not return. also i dont think he will return. of course if he does comeback i will be rooting for him every step of the way.

Exactly. I mean look at the 2 years he had with Washington, 20ppg/6rpg/4apg averages... how many 40 year olds can come into the league after being out for however many years and average 20ppg? It's not as if he was putting up 4ppg and playing horribly, the guy just loves basketball and if he's good enough to come back and contribute to a struggling team like that then good on him. It's not exactly going to taint his career, if anything in my eyes it makes him even more unbelievable as a basketballer. And lets face it, it's not as if he did it for the money... seeing asthough he signed for the league minimum.

cant knock a guy for loveing something to much to let go can ya? i know i cant.
btw how old is malone now? i noticed that kevin willis is 42 and still at it, i think malone is also 42? lol you dont hear much about willis anymore but the man is 42 and still banging bodies, gotta give him some credit too.
Thu Sep 23, 2004 2:22 pm
True, although I'm not sure it's as impressive for a big man to be going around at 42 compared to a guard. Just because there's a lack of quality C's in the NBA, and Willis would only have to contend with the likes of Pryzbilla and Jerome James as opposed to Kobe Bryant and Tracy Mcgrady. Either way he deserves respect, alot of people seem to ignore what he's done in the past...
91-92: 18.3ppg 15.5rpg
92-93: 17.9ppg 12.9rpg
93-94: 19.1ppg 12.0rpg
94-95: 19.7ppg 13.2rpg
I don't care who the player is, but 18.7ppg and 13.4rpg over a 4 year stretch is pretty impressive for a big man.
Thu Sep 23, 2004 2:23 pm
yeah i agree with you there, being over 40 as a big man is definetly easier. the game is slower at the 4 and 5 and that helps.
Thu Sep 23, 2004 8:53 pm
jesus christ those are really good numbers, didnt relise there were his averages over the span, just shows you how some people fly under the media radar

Apparently, one of the NBA's all-time greatest players is enough for the Miami Heat.
Shaquille O'Neal has told Heat teammates that NBA legend Michael Jordan wants to play for Miami this season, and went so far as to ask a few Heat players whether it would be a good idea, two sources with knowledge of the situation said.
O'Neal told teammates that Jordan has left him several messages, and O'Neal was convinced Jordan wants to play for the Heat this year. O'Neal told teammates he was not interested in having Jordan join the Heat, and others agreed, the sources said. O'Neal even asked whether one of the players should go to management and express the desire not to add Jordan, one of the sources said.
Regardless, it appears unlikely that the five-time MVP will come out of retirement to join Miami at age 41. When the Jordan-to-Miami rumors originally surfaced in July, Heat president Pat Riley dismissed them, uninterested in adding a player Jordan's age.
Rumors of a Jordan comeback have resurfaced in recent weeks because he has been working out vigorously with other NBA players in Chicago, and a Denver Post story Wednesday said Nuggets General Manager Kiki Vandeweghe has acknowledged the rumor. The story, however, was about a possible Dennis Rodman comeback, with only a brief mention of Jordan. Jordan has not played since averaging 20 points and 6.1 rebounds for the Washington Wizards in the 2002-03 season and has since been adamant that his playing days are finished.
Last week, Heat general manager Randy Pfund said he spoke with Jordan's trainer, Tim Grover, and Grover gave no indication Jordan was mulling a comeback. During a trip to Asia in May, Jordan repeatedly said there was no chance he would make another comeback. He also has denied comeback rumors recently.
Jordan was spotted on South Beach in July, before the O'Neal trade, which led to rumors of a comeback.
The Heat does need help at small forward, with Rasual Butler, Wesley Person and Eddie Jones being the leading candidates to start at that position when the season begins. Jordan spent much of his time with the Wizards playing small forward, but the Heat doesn't seem prepared to turn to Jordan for help.
Jordan wants to be a part-owner of a team and has frequently been linked to the Heat

good thing shaq said no...if heats won it this year, everyone will say it's the jordan factor that helped
Thu Sep 23, 2004 11:01 pm
Jordan should just stay away, what a joke that would be if he would return "one more time".

strangely enough after i saw a wgn news show saying he was coming back for the bulls (wgn is a chicago news station) and then another local news stations saying the same thing, i then see yet another local channel saying he's not coming back for the bulls - he's going to the heat. this morning i see a show while i am getting patient up (i am a medical type person) and it says there are rumors linking him to a chicago return, a miami return, and a detroit return which leads me to think no one really knows what the hell michael is doing but michael.
it's nice shaq is saying everything he is and the heat are running around all but saying he's signed, but until we see michael's name on a sheet with a signature we have no idea and with the media unsure saying he's linked to three different teams, well, he's an unpredictable kinda guy so i'm going to keep my mouth shut and wait it out. he could do a lot with the heat, but i can see why he'd entertain detroit and why he'd look back to chicago so we'll have to wait until something is announced. personally i'd rather see him in a bulls jersey, but that's me.

what the fuck, jordan?! just come back already!!!
Fri Sep 24, 2004 7:00 pm
Yay!!!
Fri Sep 24, 2004 7:29 pm
All the same, I have a feeling the rumour mills will keep churning out speculation of a comeback as long as he's playing pickup games and in a condition where he might possibly be able to play in the NBA.
I'd like to see him get involved in legends games at the All-Star Weekend if he gets the chance and he's willing to make an appearance. While I wouldn't mind seeing those games dropped in favour of a longer dunk contest, as long as they're around it's nice to see some of the old greats suit up again.
Fri Sep 24, 2004 8:28 pm
It'd be cool if they included a Legends game. Like another game to go with the Rookie/Soph and All-Star game. They could just have like 4 or 5 minute quarters, and get as many game-fit veterans as they can. Even if some guys weren't completely in shape, alot of people would get a kick out of seeing guys like Dr. J out on the court for 30 seconds or so
Fri Sep 24, 2004 8:36 pm
i agree a legends all star game be awesome plus it might give retired players incentice to keep in shape instead of going fat and old
Fri Sep 24, 2004 8:40 pm
They used to do that up until 1993, before introducing the rookie game in 1994. Some of the games were a little ugly (especially for the first couple of minutes) with the greats not exactly in game shape and a little rusty, but they were often carried by the players who weren't too far removed from their final year in the NBA.

Shaq say no to Jordan. ow well we all know that coz with mj on heat roster (if ever) it will limit shaq coz too many players want the ball esp the greatest player in the game. also as they said if heat win it they say its jordan who carry them and not shaq.
Sat Sep 25, 2004 7:21 am
Jordan can compete in that contest that has a current NBA player, WNBA player, and NBA legend. Or did they squash that? I forgot..
I want to see him involved in the NBA in some way, as an owner or whatever.. and I'd love to see him involved in All Star Weekend.

Have you read the ESPN article? MJ never even talked to Shaq.
Regarding Jordan, he was on "My Wife and Kids", an ABC show with Marlon Wayans. He went up against Wayans in his own basketball camp. It was pretty funny. He was hitting jumpers with a hand in his face left and right. He had some nice lines, "You reach, I teach"...It was nice to see him though if you look through the awful acting.
Sat Sep 25, 2004 2:19 pm
Did you guys see this one commercial with Al Michaels practicing his lines while legends were playing a pickup game in a gym? I saw it on the NBA.com site (and I guess it was on TV too) there were guys like George Gervin and Robert Parish and Kareem knocking down 3's and whatnot. I don't know if that was fake or not but it would be cool to watch the more able bodied players play.
