Veteran point guard Travis Best has reemerged as a veteran insurance policy for Jason Kidd, who could be out until late November or early December following left knee surgery. Best might pay a visit to East Rutherford next week.
The Nets have also discussed bringing in free agent power forward Marcus Fizer, who played under new assistant coach Bill Cartwright in Chicago.

They're going the cheap way...better than nothing.

Best's finest seasons were in Indiana, but I don't think he's ready to be written off yet. He's the kind of veteran point guard who can fill in for a little while, so he's a decent insurance policy while Kidd is unavailable.
I don't think Fizer will show anything special that Chicago didn't see. At least I hope not - I'd hate to see him go elsewhere after four unspectacular seasons in Chicago and prove to be a much better player than most people thought.

I think Fizer will be a good acquisition for the Nets if signed he is a very agressive and strong player that has good inside scoring ability, if give the chance I'd expect at least 11-12ppg for him this year.

Fizer has no reason to have a break-out season. If he plays with the Nets he will be battling for playing time with Richard Jefferson, Lucious Harris, Rodney Buford, Ron Mercer and Eric Williams. Seeing as he probably won't play shooting guard with his poor outside shooting, he MIGHT get a chance to back up Jefferson who will probably being playing almost the whole game.
As for Best, I like him better than Jacque Vaughn. But he will also probably get very little playing time backing up Kidd IF Kidd remains healthy. If not, he has all the right to show everybody what he could do as this is a big chance for a lot of players on the Nets to show what they could do before the next offseason for the Nets where they will probably be rebuilding almost their whole team except for Jefferson/

Why the heck would fizer play sg?
He's a power foward by trade. And no one you mentioned is a power forward.

Fizer played SF for the bulls. But I do agree with you that he could play PF with the Nets, it's better than starting Scalabrine. Although Fizer is also undersized he does play more of a post game than anybody else on the Nets roster.
Sun Sep 05, 2004 4:47 pm
Then why did you say that Fizer would fight for minutes with mercer, buford, harris and williams?
He will either start PF, or backup SF and PF.
Sun Sep 05, 2004 4:50 pm
Because Fizer played SF for the bulls and I didn't think about him playing PF for the Nets. All the guys I mention earlier could play SF or SG so that is why I said he would fight for minutes with them.

Actually he was both SF/PF. He's been a 'tweener there for his entire career, but I feel his better position is PF...

I think the Nets are going the "bad" way. Bye-bye. It was nice meeting to you New Jersey

C jason collins
PF marcus fizer
SF richard jefferson
SG ron mercer
PG jason kidd
actually, i think its not that bad for a team which has lost two starters in a moment. fizer will put ok numbers for nets, i guess.

The only reason Fizer was playing SF there is because the Bulls had a surplus of young pf's and c's while he was there.

That's another reason. The Bulls started Dupree or LJ3 (as well as some JYD) at the 3 a lot last season...

fizer low risk/possibly high reward for the nets. he did enjoy his best year as a pro when cartwright was his coach and was playing his best ball before his knee injury.
if he's in shape, he's better served as a backup since he can bully most backup forwards in the post
