Have I missed the first half? I lost track of time and have only just switched over to Prime (which is currently showing rowing).

Sat Aug 21, 2004 4:43 pm

Nah Andrew, I've had it on 7 since 3:30ish and they haven't had it on yet.

Sat Aug 21, 2004 4:44 pm

Probably Channel 7 delaying shit again, wankers

Sat Aug 21, 2004 4:46 pm

Typical. (N) Thanks, glad I haven't missed it. :)

Sat Aug 21, 2004 4:55 pm

It's on now, just over a minute left in the first half.

Sat Aug 21, 2004 5:37 pm

bloody chanel 7! They showed the last two minutes of the second quarter, then cut to something else, and then a couple of minutes in the third quarter and then cut to something else! GRRR!!!

Must say though, no crowd there, and it didn't seem that exciting. Puerto Rico seem to have lost their energy... but that's just based on the 4 minutes I saw thanks to chanel 7.

Sat Aug 21, 2004 6:02 pm

We're fuckin chokers, there's no other way to put it. Bit hard to comment on the game when you barely see any of it (thanks Channel 7, you goat rapists) but we're just wrong... and now we're not gonna have Heal for the World Championships so again, we're fucked... why dont we just get all of our import players to become Aussie citizens, it's gotta be better than the team we're using at the moment.

Sat Aug 21, 2004 6:04 pm

fuck that sux gorjian is a shit coach keepin in tired players especially tired kings and former kings players hes the reason we lost any chance for a medal

Sat Aug 21, 2004 6:06 pm

Yeah, it was all the coaches fault. The players on the court had nothing to do with it whatsoever

Sat Aug 21, 2004 6:07 pm

that was a great chance for Australia to win a medal. I don't know what the standings are like but I assume the chance is now gone. Up by 10 or so in the third and they fucked it. They should have gone inside when they were down 3 and tried to get a 2 and another possession. Oh well. They chocked.

well it is when hes keepin tired players in the game when we have fresh players like riley on the bench heal isnt young like he used to be just smarter options by coach would be a start

Sat Aug 21, 2004 6:26 pm

Heal was always going to play down the stretch. He's the captain of the team and our best 3 point shooter. I told Andrew on MSN I thought CJ and Smith should've gone off and Maher/Rillie on... but you can't blame the whole performance, and the 2nd half collapses purely on the coach. Sure he takes some of the blame, but so do the players. Paul Rogers, 3 fouls in 38 seconds?

We have one game left, but we can't advance to the quarter finals so yes, we won't be able to compete for a medal. A very disappointing result with the fourth quarter collapse, it's been a similar story in each of our three losses. At least we'll have a chance to save face and exit with a 2-3 record but that's little reason to celebrate.

And Channel 7's coverage was apalling, again. At least they did a decent job with Australia vs USA on Thursday night.

Sat Aug 21, 2004 6:43 pm

did anyone hear the after game commentary of the opals sayin it was a 27 point win....wasnt it actually a 37 point win over greece

Sat Aug 21, 2004 6:51 pm

77 is 37 greater than 40 by my count, so yes. ;)

Yeah good point. One day I'll go back and watch all the games, and see who was on the floor and why the boomers fell apart in all the close games. I'm sure it has something to do with not being able to handle the defensive pressure at the end of close games, and then running away from the offence - read: Shane Heal usually, and others at times, jacking up 3 pointers. Or is that thier offence? :D Maybe they're going with it

Jae has continously labelled Andrew Bogut a defensive liabilty, even in the limited coverage we saw tonight, it was painfully obvious! Daniel Santiago getting a wide open dunk late in the game was just one example, and other Puerto Rican players going inside with no big guys providing support.

There is an influx of Sudanese and certain African migrants to Melbourne right now. I was saying to Jae the other day, we might have a Manute Bol on our hands. These young kids are tall!! I'll bet in a few years time we'll be talking about one or two of them. Perhaps we'll finally have a shot blocking presence at the next olympics. Lucky me I still have olympic hope if Serbia can defeat Spain and whoever else they still have to play... :)

aight was that the final score i thought the commentator said it was like 77-40 so they musta fucked up twice i didnt get to watch the game  was gettin ready to go to nudgee for coaching 2 team the bshs 1sts and 2nds (both my teams won but more than 30 points)

Sat Aug 21, 2004 7:10 pm

Missed three point attempts in the fourth quarter against the USA kind of killed the Boomers, I thought they should have opted for more possessions with higher percentage shots. Fortunately they didn't try to spark a run with a barrage of threes in the fourth against Puerto Rico, but it was still a game they could have won.

I thouht that the New Zealand Tall Blacks made the same mistake against Italy a couple of games ago when they lost 71-69. I thought they were very fortunate to only lose by two, although they did blow a good chance to send the game into OT.
