Another waste of useful money (Blount)

Fri Jul 09, 2004 3:12 am

Mark Blount re-signed with the Celtics for 6 years,41 million!!! Is this what the NBA call real talent.I know he has some talent. But come on.41 million.THe only Celtic that should get that is The Truth.

Turkoglu
Foyle
Alston
Blount

almost 150 million spent of these 4 people
they are worth in my eyes around 30 altogether

yeah some real bad choices.
Boston paid him that much because Danny Ainge is a huge JACKASS and doesn't know shit about being a GM. He's self-destructing that team. But I've gotta admit ... that team has heart. When a lot of people said that they wouldn't even be close to make the playoffs, they actually made the playoffs. So big props to the Celts on that.

Blount is a good player and has had a good season so resigning him is normal but for that money i don't know...but there arent that many big men around and still i prefer blount than foyle...

It shouldnt matter that theres a shortage of centers. He aint worth all that much.

Celtics needed to keep Blount. Like I said in that other post, bad teams have to overpay to lure free agents to their team. If Boston loses Blount then their inside game turns really horrible. They did this to save themselves, but in reality, they didn't really. It's just how it is these days.

"Why should I go to Boston when I can go to Indiana?"
"We will pay you 5x times more than Indiana"
"Sweet."

I promise you, those are the contract negotations.

They maybe alittle dumber than that
do you really need thtat much money unless you have a problem spending?

Fri Jul 09, 2004 8:42 am

As I postd in another thrad, he's another center who has one good year, then gets a big contract, ala Jerome James, Calvin Booth, Marc Jackson, Vitaly Potapenko.

Brian Skinner, another big man whose overpaid, at 5 years for 25 million. Wow. Now, I like Skinner a lot, his defense, his tough rebounding, and when he was going around with the Clips, Raptors, and Bulls, I really wanted him to get more minutes. He finally did with the Bucks, but this deal is overpaying him for too many years, especially when you consider his injury history.

How many times have I said now that big men will always get the dough?

Size does matter.

I really think James could be something...he just is so lazy it's abnormal.

Diop has size, but no touch.

Didn't Paul Silas say he hasnt given up hope on him? Wasn't there an article in the beginning of the season stating that they have trainers working with Diop on his Jumper?

are you kidding? blount is no joke, he's actually good, he showed it last year. the MLE is definitely worth spending on him.

Jerome James I'm guessing, so much talent, it's funny that this guy still has potential, but he's the worlds laziest player.

Blount is a kat that can ball, this contract is perfect for him, he showed he could ball, he's a legit 7 footer, and guve him 30+ mins he'll give you 12-9- and maybe 1 and a half blocks, and he's got a killer hook in the lane.
The 56.6% FG wasn't a fluke, this kat can score inside.

blount's not bad.. his stats don't blow you away.. but he's a legit big man.. he was 2nd in the league last year in field goal percentage (56%) not bad for a guy that weighs almost a 100 pounds less than shaq and gives up 5 inches on yao ming

Sat Jul 10, 2004 2:28 pm

His stats make him somewhat underrated, but it still seems a little excessive. This is really shaping up to be the offseason of the overpaid player.
