Huh? Do they get to pick in this order or are these the teams with the highest chances to land the number one pick? Isn't there supposed to be a whole lottery kind of thing with balls?

If the Magic do get Okafor, I think they should play him at the PF, get rid of Howard + Gooden for a decent Center. (Yeah, alot of those around.
, silly me.)

The lottery completed about 30 seconds before I typed that post.
That is the draft order.

Oh, ok, I didnt know.
Last year it was pretty publicised on NBA.com and everything that's why I was a bit confused, my bad.

cool, magic #1

Charlote #4? i thought they automatically got like #1, #2 cuz theyre an expansion team
(and that still boathers me, the whole Bobcats thing, why does Charlotte get a team after they lost the Hornets?)
Thu May 27, 2004 10:57 am
They did not "lose" the Hornets, the Hornets management decided that Charlotte was no good for them anymore. No one was going to watch their games, so they didnt make money. Charlotte didnt do anything wrong. After the Hornets left, some dude felt that Charlotte is a basketball city, so he asked for a team in Charlotte. The Bobcats.

the only change between the draft order and the probabilities is the Clippers moving from 5 to 2 and bumping Chicago and Washington to 3 and 5 respectively. I wanted the Suns to get a better pick.
Thu May 27, 2004 2:33 pm
I'm dissapointed that the Wizards went down to 5th because this likely means no Deng, maybe trade out first pick and Dixon for Deng. But I am happy the Clippers got 2nd, I'm not too sure what we'll do with it though, maybe trade the pick down to get a PG, and a decent rotation player.
The Raptors stayed the same, still hoping for Harris or Gordon.
Orlando deserves that pick, and I had Chicago going lower, but a little too low, it's all good, I think Chicago is a litte happy, they likely didn't want another high school big man and the decision would have been hard with the 2nd pick.
Thu May 27, 2004 2:36 pm
the Clippers are going to take another power forward like always fgrep.

Hopefuly they get a pg, because lets face it, Marko Jaric shouldn't be starting at pg.
Thu May 27, 2004 4:30 pm
Looks like T-Mac could be staying. This gives the Magic a big chance to improve, something that McGrady wants. I guess they'll take Okafor. If they can get rid of Howard or Gooden and get a PG or SG that can shoot and get bout 15ppg things should be good

Please NO, Brand and Wilcox, no more PF's, the Clippers will likely take Dwight Howard, then trade their pick for a PG and something else or trade down for a PG. The could also take Gordon, Harris or Livingston at 2, but I don't want Livingston, he could take too long to develop, and by the time he's good Baylor decided not to give out money anymore, and Harris and Gordon shouldn't go that high.
I'm happy you also know that Jaric shouldn't start at PG.

They're restricted to fourth this year, but they'll be able to select first overall if they win the lottery from 2005 onwards. The league introduced restrictions on expansion teams after Orlando had two consecutive first overall picks (1992: Shaq; 1993: Webber, traded for Penny) after only a couple of years in the league. They also modified the lottery so that teams with poorer records had a greater chance of winning the first pick.
The Grizzlies and Raptors were not able to select first for their first couple of years in the league. I believe Toronto actually won the 1996 lottery, but was forced to pick second (the Grizz picked third), with Philadelphia being awarded the top pick (that became Allen Iverson).
3. Chicago
Not bad, I guess. 20 years ago the Bulls got the third pick and managed to select a fairly decent player...I don't think lightning will strike twice though.

I believe the year the Raptors and the Grizz came into the league, they got the 7th and 8th picks. And considering the Raptors made the playoffs a few seasons later, getting the 7th pick wasn't bad. Unlike in the NFL, you're not at a disadvantage when you're and expansion team.
I highly doubt the Clippers will take another PF, considering they've already spent 3 first rounders are 3 PF's (if you count the one traded away for Brand). Deng is looking more and more likely esp considering the fact that they won't re-sign (or are highly unlikely to) Q Richardson.
I think Orlando is a great, great place for Okafor to go to. He can really be the big presence in the middle Orlando has lacked for so long and there's not much pressure on him offensively to produce, so he can slowly develop his offensive game.

Yea, i guess last year was the lottery for LeBron, which meant whoever got the first pick got LeBron. The fact that he was such a coveted player made the draft lottery so publicised last year... but this year, there isn't really a player who stands out as being a lot better than anyone else.
