Already on the Olympic rosters were two-time gold medalist Karl Malone, 2000 gold medalist Jason Kidd, two-time NBA MVP Tim Duncan, Allen Iverson, Jermaine O'Neal, Tracy McGrady and Mike Bibby. Along with Stoudemire, Marbury, Marion. Carmelo, Cassell and Artest might join in the next few days, it all depends on if McGrady and Malone wont do it because they are having 2nd thoughts about it.

Actually, T-Mac is close to pulling out, so is J Kidd, so is Karl Malone, Jermaine O'Neal is having second thoughts, Carmelo is not even selected and Iverson might also pull out.

Anthony is among several possible replacements, including Sam Cassell, Ron Artest, and Lamar Odom.

yes carmelo is one of the ones that could replace the people u named

I don't expect Shaq to be on the team, ditto KG. Judging by his latest comments, Kidd will probably also sit this one out. I guess Stern his getting his wish for no more Dream Teams.

Marbury will be on the team.

Hey, cool thread, I thought about posting this news, here are my thoughts  :

I think, that they should've maybe thought about Big Ben, Wade as well as L.James, Franchise, Pierce, Payton, Odom, Redd, KG, Gooden, Maggette, Davis(A), R. Davis, Zach R, R.Lewis, R. Murray, R. Alston, D. Marshall, Hughes... just to name a few. (Some are already on there, I know! ) But for those interested, here's the players on the current roster::

10 Mike Bibby G Sacramento Kings
13 Tim Duncan C San Antonio Spurs
4 Allen Iverson G Philadelphia 76ers
- LeBron James G Cleveland Cavaliers
- Richard Jefferson F New Jersey Nets
5 Jason Kidd G New Jersey Nets
11 Karl Malone F Los angeles Lakers
- Stephon Marbury G New York Knicks
- Shawn Marion F Phoenix Suns
6 Tracy McGrady G Orlando Magic
7 Jermaine O'Neal F/C Indiana Pacers
- Amare Stoudemire F Phoenix Suns

Head Coach: Larry Brown (Detroit Pistons)
Ass. Coach: Gregg Popovich (San Antonio Spurs)

I honestly think that they need a true centre, and maybe less guards.. but if that's what Brown wants as his style of play, well, we can't change his mind.. Unless

Ill be at a exhibition game when they play Italy in Germany, looks like a nice roster to watch...I cant believe I will see all those guy on the floor in 1 game :P

Tracy McGrady just dropped out today

http://sports.espn.go.com/oly/news/story?id=1810269

and looking at the current roster, I definitely think they need some more F and F/C, and more defensive presence. If they're still looking for offensive guys rather than players like Artest or Ben Wallace, I honestly don't see US winning gold medal, even with Larry Brown.

This is the roster I'd like to see! That may be achievable

10 Mike Bibby G Sacramento Kings
13 Tim Duncan C San Antonio Spurs
4 Allen Iverson G Philadelphia 76ers
9 LeBron James G Cleveland Cavaliers
15 Richard Jefferson F New Jersey Nets
6 Reggie Miller G Pacers
5 Stephon Marbury G New York Knicks
11 Shawn Marion F Phoenix Suns
14 Shaq O'neal C LA Lakers
7 Jermaine O'Neal F/C Indiana Pacers
12 Amare Stoudemire F Phoenix Suns
8 Kobe Bryant G LA Lakers

Added O'neal and Reggie in cause they are considering... Brown wants Miller to play and O'neal says he may reconsider playing and so will Malone/Kidd (about pulling out)

If Jermaine O'neal and Iverson go- I'd pick Carmelo and Dwyane Wade to rplace them...as some one said...might as well send the future of the NBA to Athens!

Kobe has said he isnt off the team until his trial dates have been finalised!

And I also gave them jersey numbers... I feel real proud!

How I assigned numbers:
James will probably take 9 cause MJ did in 92,96
Stoudamire takes 12...Shaq takes 14 cause those are the only numbers left after the other players choose their numbers- same with Miller and 6
Marion is 11 cause he had it before
Kobe takes 8
Starbury takes 5 cause it was Kidds
Jefferson takes 15 cause he had it before
(Dodgy arguments?)

Fri May 28, 2004 10:46 pm

i don't think Cassell will make it to the team since he needs to rest his injury

Fri May 28, 2004 11:32 pm

Will it be another humiliation for the USA "dream" team?
I guess not but still i cant believe they're not motivated to represent their country. Its an honor.
Apart from some of them them who have injury problems the others just dont care.
They should want a revenge on what happened last time :!:
