what else is new?

The Bobcats will be working with a salary cap of approximately $28 million, which is 60 percent of what everyone else's cap is expected to be next season. They must take 14 players, but no more than one from any of the 29 other teams.
The Magic have 10 players under contract for next season and likely the two left unprotected will be Hill and center Zaza Pachulia, which is not a very attractive menu from which to choose.
They likely will protect Tracy McGrady, Keith Bogans, Juwan Howard, Andrew DeClercq, Drew Gooden, Pat Garrity, Tyronn Lue and Reece Gaines.
Although Hill was once one of the game's best players - the Magic signed him as a free agent to a 7-year, $92 million contract in 2000 - four ankle surgeries later he has become a medical liability.
But that's a risk the Bobcats won't even think about. Hill is under contract to make $14.4 million next season, half of what the team's entire salary cap will be.
Although the Magic once thought Pachulia could be a serviceable center, their reluctance to use him last season spoke louder than any words could have. And if they don't want him back, it's hard to imagine the Bobcats taking him.

If Hill can actually return and surprise everyone by being available 70+ games per season while being an effective second or third option, then it's a pretty good deal for the Magic. They'll get to keep him, plus protect another player the Bobcats might otherwise select. The Knicks might be encouraged to do the same thing with Allan Houston.
I really hope Hill can return and be a decent player in the NBA. I don't think he'll ever reach the level he was supposed to be at by nor, or even come close to the level he was at before the injuries. But if he can stay healthy, he could still be a 16, 6 and 6 player.

the starting roster looks okay next year, a turnaround is in order if okafur is half ben wallace:
okafur
howard
garrity
mcgrady
hill
(they dont need a true point since hill and mcgrady will probably control the ball anyway)
lue is good off the bench (shoulda kept armstrong, but doc didnt like him, and who knew doc would get fired). bogans looks like a good energy player to, and declerqs okay off the bench.

for some reason that lineup doesn't really attract me nor convinces me they are good enough to make the playoffs in the east, even though it's the east, howard and harpring don't bring that much and okafor being half of ben wallace would be okay, if he can average around 12ppg or higher that would be really nice.

Harpring? I think you mean Garrity.

It's not guaranteed that the Magic is going to have the 1st pick.
