Jim Jackson

...has been solid, playing every game this season, starting every game, playing 38.5 minutes a game, averaging 12.4 points, 6.1 boards, 2.7 assists, 1 steal and 2 turnovers a game. 42% from the field, 81% from the line, and 39% from down town, 7th in the league in 3 pointers made. Solid numbers.

What are your thoughts on 'ole Jimmy Jackson? He's had an injury plagued career, moved all over the place and visited NBA hell in New Jersey, Golden State, Atlanta and Cleveland. At times also, he has been overlooked, which is a shame because I always felt he was a pretty good guard/forward. He's 33 now, having a fairly solid season, playing a lot of minutes. Just thought I'd give him some 'props'.

I believe he has made some clutch shots this season, including a dagger against the Bulls. Houston are hovering around the 7th spot now (I think). JJ's stability has probably been a big part of that with Stevie showing up once in a while, Cuttino being even more unpredictable, and Yao getting the ball once in a blue moon

Any thoughts?

It's worth noting that he's been playing out of position on SF, and that he's averaging a career high in rebounds per game...

Same thing with Francis and Mobley (they should have better stats with their 40mpg)

Well he's only averaging something like 10 field goal attempts a game, but yeah that's understandable considering he's sharing with Francis, Mobley, Ming, and even Mo Taylor.
I don't know what the Rockets run now days, but a few years ago with Hakeem and Chuck down low (with either Mobley and Dickerson in the back court or Maloney and Drexler) they'd go in the post to Hakeem or Chuck (you know how chuck would love to back someone down for 15 seconds) and then either look to score or look for shooters. Hakeem was a pretty good passer from the post. Ming could have that role but he would have to be 100% first priority on offence and put up some big numbers so that teams start to really fear him.

That he has. And he seems to have accepted his role. Plus there are some nights where he comes out of the shell and drops 20+.

It think Mobley's 3.5apg is good since he is a shootingguard and he ppg is okey, but he has done better but that's probably beacause of Yao.
So I take it back about Mobley but Steve!!

Steve Francis who's suppose to me a allstar player average 6apg and 16-17ppg in 40mpg. Now either he should score 22ppg or dish 7+apg if he wants to be consider to be a allstar player in the future.

there's no doubt Jimmy has played excellently.. and it's pretty hard for him to score 17 pts a game when rockets only score about 80-something points a game and those points are shared with the likes of stevie, mobley, and yao... i watched every single rockets game and i can say Jimmy Jackson was the best off season acquisition

i'm impressed with his play and consistency. i never thought jackson would return to being a starter on a playoff contending team.

Wasn't he supposed to have come close to retirement after it seemed as though there wasn't any interest in him prior to last year? He's certainly bounced back, and although he's no longer the player he was in Dallas, it's nice to see him starting and posting decent numbers. Most journeyman fade out after a couple of good seasons here and there, never to be seen again, but JJ has avoided that fate (for now).

I don't think he's done yet. He's only failed to average double figures in points per game twice and for both of those seasons he averaged 24 mpg or less while still posting decent numbers for the playing time he was given. He's healthy and able to contribute - the Rockets should be able to get another couple of years of good production out of him (he's signed through 2006).

hakeem has to come back for one or two years and do for ming what robinson did for duncan. seriously though, i agree with robbie, houston has to run through ming. yao needs more shots; 12 shots per is not acceptable for a player of his caliber, i watch far too many games where yao gets good position and it takes the other rockets 4 or 5 seconds to find him giving!!!! and seriously, common sense dictates give it to the player with the higher percentage shot--- yao!!!! steve francis needs to get real the way tony parker has/is getting or get traded.

more importanlty-- yao needs more touches!!! this guy can see over every other player not named bradley..... that is a distinct advantage in seeing passing lanes!

Though the Suns prevailed 99-97 in OT, Jackson and Yao both had impressive performances.

Yao needs to not get dunked on like he did tonight...I just saw the highlights and he got dunked on not once, but twice by Amare Studamire....Francis does kind of wanna help out Yao the way he defended Yao after he got dunked on really showed this.

i saw the game... it was obvious that Amare's shot was bothered by Yao all nite, paving the way for a 7-26 shooting night. that is a piss poor %for a post player

yao had 6 blocks, most of them at amare's expense. so what if he got dunked on? it comes with the territory with all shot blockers. and i'm sure coach gundy, yao, and the rest of the rockets will gladly take that since the man child went 7-26 from the field

He really affected the way Stoudamire played, it looked like he was afraid to take it inside... Yao blocked him 3 times I think. Yeah, he got dunked on, but that's part of the game.

Joe Johnson's shot in the end was huge, this game was very good... The Lakers / Magic game tonight, man, I saw the highlights on ESPN after the Suns' win, it was huge too, Kobe and T-mac got some nice things goin' on, T-Mac had almost 40 points, 8 boards and 10 assists, plus Juwan Howard had like 30 points and 10 boards, and Stevenson played real good with 15 pts, 6 boards, 6 assists or something like that... For the Lakers, Payton had 12 pts, 5 boards and 10 assists, Malone played poorly (I guess he isn't 100% fit yet), Shaq destroyed with like 25 pts and 20 boards, and Kobe simply had 5 boards, 5 assists and nearly 40 pts too, like T-Mac. The interesting thing is, he had only 1 pt by halftime... He had 24 in the 4th quarter alone. WOW!
