GM of the Year/Midseason

Thu Feb 12, 2004 2:25 pm

I say the GM of the year is Jerry West. He might havent did any really big trades, but if you look at what he did compared to last year's roster then u will know. Here is a recap.

Pau Gasol
Mike Miller
Jason Williams
Lorenzen Wright
Wesley Person
Shane Battier
Stromile Swift
Mike Batiste
Earl Watson
Michael Dickerson
Chris Owens
Brevin Knight
Ryan Humphrey
Robert Archibald
Cezary Trybanski

Now after signing James Posey who has been one of the top players for the Grizzlies during the off-seaosn. Then trading Trybanski, Archibald and Brevin Knight for Bo Outlaw who is a big part of the 2nd unit and Jake Tskalidis who plays against players like Shaq. After that, he traded Person to Portland for Bonzi which really gave us some more depth. Batiste and Owens we're let go and Michael Dickerson retired and we will get the money from him next year. He also drafted Troy Bell and Dahntay Jones and he still isnt finish trading this year IMO because he is still searching for one more deal. If you look at our roster now and the roster from last year you will know he has to be the GM of the year. The reason why Lakers shouldnt have the GM of the year is because the only reason they came to LA was to win a championship. The Twolves shouldnt have a GM of the year because they actually had a superstar to work with in KG. Jerry West made some of the most unordinary signings and trades and turned the team into a playoff contending team.

Jerry west has done a great job, no questions. Isiah has done well too, in a lot less time he has new york on the verge of something big i think. That stephon trade was great (y)

West has done a great job so far, and is probably the best choice for Executive of the Year this season. When Hubie Brown was hired to coach the Grizz, two things came immediately to mind. First, I figured Hubie wouldn't be able to relate to the players of today, and that his methods and attitude, though successful many years ago, wouldn't work in today's NBA. Second, I expected Jason Williams to be shown the door.

I was wrong.

West has assembled a talented young team with a veteran coach. The Grizzlies are on pace to make their first playoff appearance since entering the league in 1995. And it's only the second year that the Logo has been in the front office. Sure, some of the pieces were there before he came on board, but give credit where credit is due.

Sigh, how bout making a topic not only about how great your team is?

I don't know who the Mavericks' GM is, it's Cuban himself isnt it?

In this case, my vote goes to him. (Y)

I think it's Donnie Nelson or his father. Though Cuban has a lot of say like the Maloof's.

I'm very biased here...so I won't even mention Geoff Petrie or R.C. Buford. I'll just answer Psycho_Jackal and move on...

My vote goes to Isiah Thomas. He made people care about the Knicks in a matter of weeks.

Kiki's got my vote, he brought in veterans like Voshon Lenard and John Barry to help out the youngsters like Melo and Nene. He also brought in Coach Bzdelik who runs an offense which is very similar to the one that the Nets run.

yea i forgot about Isaiah. It should either be him or Knicks, but if all depends on how the Knicks fair in the next half of the season.
