According to an hospitable southerner, Atlanta was asked to relinquish Shareef Abdur-Rahim, Jason Terry and Chris Crawford for Antonio McDyess, Doleac, Charlie Ward, Michael Sweetney, New York's first round pick in '04 and the rights to Milos Vujanic. Oh, yeah, and the Hawks were supposed to release McDyess so the Knicks could re-sign him when he cleared waivers.

Thomas' interest in Crawford, the fourth-year player, could be taken in different ways. One theory is that Thomas wants to upgrade the Knicks backcourt with a player, Crawford, who at 6-5 can play both guard positions. The other, less likely, scenario is that Thomas could be working on a bigger deal, one that could include Keith Van Horn or even Allan Houston - who is thought to be untouchable and untradeable - going to Portland for Wallace.
Skiles wrote:''So far, I think we know what we've got [in Curry],'' Bulls coach Scott Skiles said Monday before the Bulls faced the Wizards. ''We've got a very skilled big man who struggles with his conditioning and has been part of Bulls teams that have racked up huge amounts of losses.
''It is what it is. That's not just a knock at Eddy. As I've said before, that's everybody who's been part of that. I don't know that there's a big mystery about it all of a sudden, about what Eddy is or anybody else.''
But Paxson isn't the type to protect anyone on a roster that does nothing but lose. That's why Paxson didn't extend Crawford's contract last summer and won't extend the contracts of Curry or Tyson Chandler this summer
