Can lebron james win NBA title? Don't think so!

Tue Dec 23, 2003 1:15 pm

I think he will end up like AI, EWING, and other great players that never win NBA title. What do you think?

Tue Dec 23, 2003 1:58 pm

There's no way to answer this question without relying solely on gut feeling. No one can even remotely accurately predict what kind of league the NBA is going to be like or what kind of team the Cavaliers are going to be like in the upcoming seasons.

So I'll go with my own gut feeling and say...... nah, Lebron won't win a championship.

Tue Dec 23, 2003 2:02 pm

this is a vary vague discussion, the guy is in his first year??? how do we know he won't get lottery then get a reallll solid big man to acoompany him on his campaign, or Kedrick Brown won't become an all-star or Boozer won't become a force to reckon with in the post, or they won't trade for someone good........we don't

Tue Dec 23, 2003 2:54 pm

it is indeed vague...we don't even know if James will stay in Cleveland for his career...he might go to a championship contender when his rookie contract is up with Cavs....

Tue Dec 23, 2003 2:58 pm

maybe if you said in the next three years then then it would make more sense but his whole career, the guy will have 13 years before he becomes 32, thats a lotta time and then depending how much longer he stays another 4 tp 6 years maybe who knows

It's hard to tell if LeBron will ever win a championship. Ewing, Barkely, Stockton and a few other great players from the 1990s didn't get to win it because it was the "Jordan Era." Jordan stopped many good players from getting a ring. If you took Jordan out, I'm sure the Knicks would of won a championship. They reached to te finals 2 times in the 90's and got stopped by the bulls in the early 90s pretty often thanks to Jordan.

Yao, LeBron, Carmelo, Amare, and a few other good young players have yet to hit there prime, and by the time they hit there prime, Shaq will be gone and that opens the door for people who would be vets by then ( like AI, Kobe, T-mac) to get a good shot at a title since the quality of big men these days aren't that good as it was in the 90s.

I think it will take some time for LeBron to win a title. He's in the Eastern Conference, on one of the worst teams in the NBA. As impressive as he's been so far, he can't take the Cavs to the promised land by himself.

it's a little too early to say he'll be one of those players who's unquestionably a great player but never achieves the ultimate goal. That might be the case when it's all said and done, but right now, it's a pretty bold prediction to make.

It will definitely be a few years though. The Cavs aren't even close to being playoff contenders right now, much less championship contenders.

I'll be the one to go out on a limb and say yes. I think that eventually he will be a player that wins a championship. And this doesn't have anything to do with all the attention he's getting, all the endorsements, or the fact that his team snapped their road losing streak. This is coming from me watching him play and showing me more court sense than more than a third of the league at only 18 in his rookie year.

Fuck his physical attributes, the fact that he runs like Tyronne Lue, weighs the same or more than the league's average PF, and can jump with the league's best, I'm talking about how well he reads the court and how quickly he's able to acknowledge a teammate with an easy scoring opportunity. Once he gets some better talent around him his assist numbers will increase dramatically. I've seen these scrubs screw up many a highlight... Regardless, his assist numbers are one shy of Magic's during his rookie year at this point (thru the same amount of games; check out LeBron Line at espn.com). and keep in mind the Lakeshow won a championship that year. The same with his rebounds, but LeBron's scoring is better, and you can't forget untill Ricky "I'm the man cause I think so" Davis left LeBron's touches were getting limited because you can believe Ricky was going to get his.

Moving Davis for some much needed defense in Tony Battie and Eric Williams was a great move by management. They've brought team defense to the Cavs and the results are speaking for themselves. Ofcourse they're still garbage but they're improving, and this move is one of the key reasons I think the Cavs management is moving in the right direction and will put the talent around LeBron that he needs to one day win a championship.

But back to his scoring. The other night against the Bulls he showed his heart isn't in question either. For the first time all season Paul Silas put the ball in his hands with the game on the line and the boy didn't dissapoint. He scored 14 points(including a huge shot with the shot clock running down, after a headsy play where he got trapped in the corner and instead of forcing a bad pass like most players, he had the sense to call time-out), not to mention 2 blocks, in the final 5 minutes without missing a single shot. He ended the night with 32 points 6 rebs 10 assists, the second game in a row he's went for 30+. Over last week following Rick's trading he's averaging 28 and shooting 52% .

Nobodies forgot this is a 18yr old out of high school who had pressure out the ass on him have they? They've tried to make alot of people out to be the next goliath of the NBA. You're looking at him. This boy is for real. And as long as he doesn't get injured I'm not wondering if he'll win a championship I'm wondering how many.

lebron has plenty of time to win a title (age:19)... eventually.
he is labeled to be the next michael jordan, he has the potential
to be a big threat shooting machine.. plus his shear size as an guard
is dominating... :) all there's left to do is surround him with a better
cast of players.. better center, pf... etc..

Excellent post Ma$e.

I don't have much of anything to add. I'm in awe of this kid.

He's the future...6'8"...240 pounds...and a legit combo-guard.

I didn't think it was possible for someone to live up to that hype...well I'll be damned.
