Kobe to the Spurs?

Fri Dec 05, 2003 10:22 am

Just how much Bryant appreciates Popovich's support -- and just what he meant by his last statement -- will be of great interest to Lakers fans next summer, assuming Bryant follows through with plans to opt out of his contract. The Spurs will be a major player in the free-agent market, with as much as $12 million to $13 million in salary-cap room.

Kobe won't be going to Spurs...I think he probably wants to go to a team where he will be the main man...and going from Shaq to a Tim Duncan won't help.

I think he may go to the Clippers- I heard he's good friends with Magette...Utah is out of the question for him cause he said he doesn't want to go to Mormon land....

Who else will have money to spend next year? I believe Denver will...but not only are the Nuggets establishing Melo and Dre as their stars, I doubt Kobe will want to play in Colorado 41 games a year. I also think he'd want to avoid the Spurs, who can pay him handsomely but won't provide him with an opportunity to be "the man".

Was thinking about the Grizzlies. After all West drafted the guy. Yet, if money is the problem, the Lakers can offer him more than anyone else. If championship is what he wants, the Lakers is the perfect place, knowing now there are no doubts of how good the Lakers 4 punch are. If he just want to leave, a good bye k8 song finally will be released.

i think he'll wanna be the man..after he's won three...and counting Championship..i think now he wants to concentrade on MVP...finals MVP and stuff like that...

If Kobe is definitely on his way out and the team of his choice doesn't have cap room, perhaps the Lakers would be willing to do a sign-and-trade. It would be foolish to let a guy like Kobe just walk. It would be an interesting scenario if he wanted to go to Memphis though; Jerry West working his magic against a team he meant so much to for more than 40 years.

Hey how about portland.. he will replace sheed as the man there they will have money this offseason.

I think kobe will play the free-agent market a little bit llike he said he wanted to, then go back to the lakers. Afterall in the end it comes down to winning championships, not leading the league in stats. Just ask Gary or Karl.

Fri Dec 05, 2003 2:25 pm

but that's cuz both never won a championship before...Kobe did...three times..and now he may wants to try to see how far he can take a team himself...

Fri Dec 05, 2003 2:48 pm

That's right!

Kobe's already won 3 rings and he's only about 25....Remember MJ didn't win his first ring till his late 20's- I think. ANyway, Kobe can still win this year....4 rings and then swwitch to a cr*p team and be the man...He could average 35+ppg for a few more seasons and boost ticket sales before aiming for more championships. I think he has the time to waste...unless he wants to win a hell lot of championships- more than anyone else in history! It sounds sorta selfish but it's all business....scoring heaps will further boost Kobe's image IMO....

Thats why the Knicks were interested in Kobe....and still are! Also, Kobe hasn't won any individual awards...except for All-star MVP...if I were him, I'd want to win MVP and stuff like that, but being with Shaq doesn't help his chances!

There are many teams he could sign with- I think the highest bidder with the worst team but in the best location/city will win!

I hoping Kobe leaves the lakers, he should go to a team where he will be the main guy and watch him start losing. That will show the league that the Lakers was always Shaq's team and always will be.

PS I HATE THE LAKERS

Fri Dec 05, 2003 7:23 pm

I think Kobe will just play a little with the free-agency market and then chooses to resign with the Lakers. On the other end, Kobe is a guy who loves challenges, so there is a chance aswell he will sign with a under .500 team and bring them to the top plus individual titles

Sat Dec 06, 2003 2:58 am

IMHO he should sit tight with the Lakers, (their jersey suits him best :P ) and just wait...Shaq wont be in the league for another 10 years, that's just talk. He once said that he would retire when Jackson retires, don't pay attention to Shaq. He talks so much crap its unbelievable.

After Shaq's gone, the Lakers will be Kobe's team and will be built around him. He'll be foolish if he gives up (more) championships for MVP's...he can get those later after winning (more) championships.

Sat Dec 06, 2003 6:03 am

Hmm.. let's not forget.. THE BOBCATS.

Sat Dec 06, 2003 7:56 am

I dont think Kobe will be too happy on a sucky team. I know he wants to try and be the main man, but what if hes like T-Mac in orlando? He scores 50+ points and his team cant win. Then he may regret the decision.

Sat Dec 06, 2003 8:04 am

well if kobe does go to another team it may be the grizzlies because there has been more talk about him coming here than anywhere. i think it will be either memphis or staying in LA with the Lakers. I dont think he would want to go with the Clippers, because they really arent a good team. They would be good if they are mature enough to player together and share the ball, but as for Kobe going there i dont think so. West is building the team in Memphis where Kobe wouldnt probably mind coming here.

If Kobe doesn't re-sign with the Lakers, he'll probably be the Bobcat's top prospect in the off-season. They can build their franchise around him. If Kobe mans to be the man, the best choice for him would be to join the Bobcats. Their division is weak so Washington and Charlotte would probably end up at the top.
