Report: Steve Nash close to becoming a part-time consultant for Warriors

The defending champs are now very close to having a new person on hand to instruct players. This one happens to be one of the best point guards of his era. According to a report from ESPN's Marc Stein, retired two-time MVP Steve Nash is in "advanced talks" to join the Warriors as a part-time player development consultant:

Sources told ESPN.com that Nash, who was not planning to go into coaching after formally announcing his retirement in March, has been lobbied aggressively by Warriors coach Steve Kerr and team president Rick Welts to spend a few days per month with the team to work on skills with individual players.

The parties, sources said, are in the process of finalizing a deal that essentially will make Nash an occasional tutor to the Golden State guards. Kerr, Welts and current Warriors player development coach Bruce Fraser -- all of whom worked closely with the 41-year-old Nash when he was playing in Phoenix -- are among Nash's closest friends in the league and ultimately persuaded him to consider joining the NBA reigning champions as a part-timer. While out injured last season, Nash did similar work with Los Angeles Lakers youngster Jordan Clarkson and, sources say, has likewise worked out this summer with a variety of guards around the league: Jeremy Lin, Dante Exum, Kemba Walker and C.J. McCollum.

I love that Nash is keeping the game of basketball afloat by passing down his knowledge to the young'ns.

While out injured last season, Nash did similar work with Los Angeles Lakers youngster Jordan Clarkson and, sources say, has likewise worked out this summer with a variety of guards around the league: Jeremy Lin, Dante Exum, Kemba Walker and C.J. McCollum.

He worked with D'Angelo too. Of all those guys, D'Angelo could be someone that actually takes Nash's techniques and evolves them further.

Serious question, can Curry even get any better? He's already crafty as hell

Probably not. He could just stay in LA and teach Clarkson and Russell there.

I suppose he could become an elite defender, though Nash probably isn't the one to teach him that.

Personally I think it's the ultimate two fingers to the Lakers.

They brought him in to LA and he wasn't able to play through injury but during that time he wasn't around the team period and them like Kevin pointed out he could of helped Clarkson and Russell but decided to join there biggest rivals instead.

Could've been worse. He could've joined the Celtics. Or the Clippers.

To be fair, he did help develop Clarkson and D'Angelo already.

Yeah he helped Clarkson a little last year but not sure how he has helped Russell yet tho, also not sure what else Nash can teach Curry in GS as he is already a mvp and a champion so I am thinking this is more about Nash's career growth more than anything

The best of the best always continue to develop and evolve their game even after they've established themselves and found success. Curry may be an MVP and a champion, but that doesn't mean there's nothing Nash can't teach him, or help him with, as his career goes on.

Very true, I just thought a guy like Nash would of preferred to mold a younger player like Clarkson or Russell but sure there are still places that Curry can get better and I think I am preaching to the choir when I reference that Jordan later developed a 3 point shot that he didn't have prior to 92

Nash sets a good example for Curry. Nash didn't even start averaging double-digit assists and shooting above 50% until he was 30 yrs old.

Granted, the PHX system had a lot to do with that. But still, Curry is only 27. And could still pick up some little intricacies that only Nash tuition can provide.
