Free Agency 2003

Basically i think we should have a topic on the whole free angency nagotion and stuff...first of all i think J. Oneal will leave Pacers cuz i think he's not too happy with the team..though i think Reggie and Brad Miller will stay...as for J-Kidd i think he's gonna head to Spurs unless Nets signs a key FA that will reconsider his thoughts..Finally i think that Karl Malone will head to Dallas but Alonzo Mourning would want to stay at Miami...and i think Miami might sign another key FA that plays at PG

I think those are the biggest transaction in this year's fa signing but there are other awsome players like Gilbert Arenas

My predictions, as of July 1st 2003:

Reggie Miller: Indiana. Can't see him leaving the Pacers.

Brad Miller: Indiana. It's a good situation for him.

Jermaine O'Neal: Indiana. San Antonio is not out of the question, but Indiana can give him the most money, as well as the role of The Man.

Alonzo Mourning: Miami. I have a feeling loyalty and salary cap issues will keep Zo in Miami.

Tim Duncan: San Antonio. Very little doubt.

Gary Payton: Milwaukee. Prediction subject to change.

Karl Malone: Dallas/Utah. I still think there's a chance he'll stay put, but I feel if he goes anywhere, it would be Dallas. Still unsure, since money and his role are both factors.

Jason Kidd: New Jersey/San Antonio. I'm not convinced he'll go, but I'm not convinced he'll stay. I think it comes down to the Nets and Spurs - Dallas and Denver are remote possibilities at best.

I think that Payton would be a better fit for the Spurs. I could see him and Parker running the backcourt better than Kidd and Parker, mainly because GP doesn't always have to run the offense, and can guard shooting guards such as Kobe, better than Kidd can.

but Kidd makes his team better and if he goes to Spurs Tim Duncan will average like 35-38 ppg and probably most of their team scoring will go up

I hope the Lakers get Arenas and make stupid GS pay for taking another athletic swingman as opposed to one of the billion point guards available in this draft.

not neccessarily. Observe that Kidd makes his teamateS better, not just a single man. Most likely he will snatch points away from duncan, since he won't be looking for just ONE guy, but rather all of them. I see as away that if you play with Kidd your Points will drop, or stay the same. Most likely drop though since he is a TEAM point gaurd, and a major TEAM player.
I think Kidd is a better fir becsasue GP is aging and they are bot same height, but Kidd still is faster, so he can play alittle closer to taller Gaurds and bother their shot while preventing them from driving, not saying GP can't, I just think Kidd might do alittle better, at it all now a days. And for who would run the point then? Kidd, Parker can shoot, he's seems to like SG better anyhow.

If a player is a restricted free agent, his current team can match any offer made by another team. When a restricted free agents sign an offer sheet with a new team, their old team has 15 days to match the offer. If no qualifying offer is put forward, the restricted free agent is able to sign with the new team.

There is a 50/50 chance of Kidd going to San Antonio? But the Spurs don't need another gaurd, they need some other big guys to replace Robinson, & soon, Kevin Willis!

I still can't understand the trade between the Bucks & T-Wolves, especailly when they aren't sure if Payton will return?

I hope Alonzo Morning goes to another team, he deserves the chance to contest for a title, and he's the type of player all NBA teams desire!

I think Karl Malone will end up with the Mavericks, but they will have to get rid of some players to make cap room... I recommend Abdul-Wahead, and Eschmeyer, & Williams or Popeye Jones!

so if the trade does go then it seems that the Bucks are back to rebuilding mode eh? no Allen,no Robinson, no Casell and maybe no Payton poor Michael Redd,Desomnd Mason and Tim Thomas..The Bucks are like a boat that's sinking fast

Redd, Mason, Harrington and Thomas looks like a solid building block to me. Croshere could contribute off the bench as well. They'd need a PG and a C though.

They don't have a guaranteed contract, but as I described above there are certain restrictions placed upon them when they sign a contract.

Restricted free agency is a clause that is written into some players' contracts.

Besides age, I think that GP and Jason Kidd are even. It only seems like we've only been able to see Kidd on a good team where his teammates are better, and Payton's stuck on some team that isn't that great. I'd like to see Payton on a team like the Spurs where he isn't the number one option and can play the kind of style that Kidd plays now. In my opinion, GP is better than Kidd at defense and he's better than Kidd at offense. Before PAyton got traded to the Bucks, he was leading the league in assists. The only thing Kidd seemed to have over him was rebounds. I don't think that there's any doubt that these two are the two best PG's in the league, but we can all make a case to why one is better than the other. Payton might be aging but we still haven't seen a dramatic decline in his stats. Kidd's probably going to demand more money than Payton, and I think that with either of them, the Spurs are a lock for the NBA Championship next year.

I'm not too sure about that. The Kings could give the Spurs some problems and depending on what Dallas does, they could also be in the way. Both those teams have a point guard who can keep up with Kidd & Payton and they both have a better small forward than the Spurs do.

That was true this year as well...and the Spurs won the title...

Mavs might make a couple upgrades to push them above the Spurs and the Kings didn't have C-Webb in the playoffs.
