MJ's free throw dunk??

can some1 tell me, mj did that dunk 2se??? coz i have a tape of him doing it in his normal Bulls uniform(simular to the once they have now) and i remmember seeing him dunk fomr there in the old uniform??

MJ performed the dunk in the 1985 dunk contest (his rookie year), wearing the Bulls old jersey. He also performed the dunk in 1987, and twice in 1988 (once in the second round of the contest, and again in the finals).

Everyone who's ever done a free throw line dunk has stepped on the line. MJ's attempts in 1987 and the one in the semi-finals in 1988 aren't very far over the line. The one from the finals in 1988 (the one that is showed more often) is further over the line. They're still fairly impressive leaps, IMHO.

I think what makes them stand out from other attempts is the way he double-pumped, as well as the height he achieved. Same with Dr J's in 1976 - he threw it down hard (he was also over the line). Guys like Brent Barry simply held the ball overhead - still a nice dunk, but not quite the "flavour" that Dr J and MJ had in theirs.

Same kind of thing with windmill dunks - no one does them quite like Dominique used to, though I reckon Jason Richardson is pretty close.

The only person I've ever seen go from almost completely behind the line and complete the dunk was James White...and considering that James White is probably at or above Michael Jordan's level of athleticism while being 2 inches taller...I'd say he'll be the only person to complete it for a while.

first of all sorry to you all who do not like my spelling, I will try to write better just for you...

second, i belive White never did jump form the free throw line off both feet, that would be same as saying it is possible to do a 720 dunk!! i have a video clip of him jumping from the free throw line, he steped on the line but he dunked it with both hands. Look it up on kazaa.

So it turnes out Michael was not as crative as we all thought, do to the dunk so many time!!! And was it still with the pump every time??
Does anyone have a clip of breant barry doing the dunk or the whle dunk contest that year??

It wasn't exactly the same every time, but in any event, he wasn't the first to attempt the free throw line dunk anyway. For the record, Dominique Wilkins would do several windmills in pretty much every competition he entered, all impressive but basically the same dunk coming in from different angles.

I know I read an article in Slam about a player who could jump off two feet from the foul line, but the name escapes me. James White sounded familiar, but it's probably not the name I'm thinking of.

i thing it just not the same watchig the dunks from TV, has any1 seen the top 10 dunks on espn, i got it form kazaa, there is one with kenny smith in the dunk contest, he bounced it b/w his legs backwards and got it to bounce off the backboard and reverse dunked it!!!

Yeah, he did that dunk a few times in the contests he was in (1990-1993). Larry Hughes tried to emulate it in 2000, but he wasn't successful (even after about 5 attempts).

IMO, the two greatest dunks in a dunk contest of all I have seen would be:

1. Desmond Mason's first dunk of the second round last year. Until I see someone else take off from just inside the free throw line, extend the ball to the length of their right arm, bring it between their legs and dunk left handed. This will be the greatest.

2. Darvin Ham. College, so I have to drop it to two. I'll let the great John Hollinger describe it...

He was invited to one dunk contest and did a move that is absolutely impossible and has never been repeated. He slapped the ball against the board, with the ball never leaving his hand, and then spun 270 degrees back the other way and dunked it one handed.

It was fairly impressive in my opinion...

Greatest dunk in a dunkcontest IMO was during a High School Slam Dunk Contest. Yhis guy named Henry Bekkering showed up and stunned the crowd. He jumped over a guy made a windmill and slammed it home...just amazing, and he finnished it with a 2 footed dunk from just 1 lil step inside the foul-line

I don't think that Henry fellow's dunk was all that great.
I have the 10 best dunkers, and 5 worst dunkers on Kazaa. Darrrel Armstrong did a reverse lay-up on purpose in the NBA dunk contest! Also in the 10 best dunkers, there's a dunk where Stansbury flips the ball under his left arm catches it just above his head and brings it back down then back up. All while in the air! This year's Desmond dunk was amazing of course, J-Rich's dunk was definitly a 50, but since he did as well as he did in the previous rounds (according to the judges, but he actually didn't do super well) he had to win.

That was in the 1996 contest. He managed to get one dunk, but couldn't get another one to go down. His last attempt, all he could muster was that reverse layup as is leap fell short.

I think the person who did the two foot free-throw line dunk was Jameel Pugh...who is about 6'3" with a 48-inch vertical. I have a video of him doing a two-foot dunk from just inside the line.

James White completed a two-hand dunk from the free throw line...but he also did a between-the-legs dunk from the free-throw line. That's the greatest dunk ever done anywhere...bar none.

Jameel Pugh is an insane dunker but i haven't heard anything about him since he won that dunk contest at Umass.

James White has dunked from the free-throw line off two feet but i think his most impressive dunk was one (i've only heard about this one so it could be an urban legend) where he jumped from right in between the free-throw and the top of the key and dunked it one handed (that's right, BEHIND the freethrow line ) . I guess it kinda makes sense that if he could dunk it two handed from the freethrow that he could do it from further back with one. Last i heard he was at florida and wasn't that good a player but could sure put on a show in warm ups.

I've got the 88 allstar game from Pontel as well and MJ's dunks while being fairly simple just have something about them that is impressive. The way he kicks his legs and moves his arms around make the dunks seem more amazing then they actually are imo.
