Wow, so huge surprises here! David West really makes me happy. I don't think anyone predicted he would make it here.

Roy and Jamison are lesser surprises. I'm pretty happy with the selections.

No deron williams or Marcus Camby?? :(... The west is way too packed this year. Josh Howard didn't make it either. No Ray Allen for the east either.. I don't think its possible to be completely happy with all the selections every year since there are always players who deserve to get in but don't get in. Richard Jefferson didn't make it either despite having a great year. I'd honestly choose him over Joe Johnson.

Josh Howard deserved to be an all-star this year for sure, at least as much as David West or his teammate Dirk. Can't agree about Camby. The Suns deserve 2 all-stars more than the Nuggets do. And I would rather see Baron make it over Williams, as much as I like Deron.

RJ over JJ? No way. Statistically, RJ is superior, but the thing is, NJ already has an all-star (despite being an awful, awful team) while the Hawks just have Johnson, and hold a better record than the Nets.

Shaq has done nothing this year to deserve it.
Opinions are my own.

Wow its gonna be a different All-star game in terms of missing regulars like Shaq and JO. Looking forward to see how Iverson plays with the West and how Garnett plays with the East. Chris Paul and Nash probably will make this game more spectacular.

I didn't know your performance during the regular season dictated whether you're chosen or not.

I thought it was meant to be entertaining.

The reserves are picked mostly based on performance it seems.

I can't say I strongly disagree with any of the choices though one can see the team record coming into play there with a couple of teams getting two representatives in the reserves. Baron Davis and Richard Jefferson are two noteworthy snubs.

I'm figuring that out this year only. I knew the coaches picked, but didn't know they went off performance or anything. Anyways, All Star game hasn't been that much fun as it is. All about balancing minutes and who becomes the top scorer to get the ASG MVP.

The rookie/soph game is much more entertaining.

I'm shocked that Baron Davis didn't make it, but hey overall I'm pretty happy.

Sadly, I understand Ray Allen not making it. He's not having a very good statistical year, especially when you look at his past years. That said, I still think he's head and shoulders above Richard Jefferson, Joe Johnson, Caron Butler, and even Chauncey Billups.

But most all of them are having way better statistical seasons so its understandable I suppose.

Brandon Roy I think is the biggest surprise. Every year there are those players we all kind of have in the back of our minds that we think are good enough to be all stars, but everyone always says, "he's good, but they'd never pick him,". They did this year though with Brandon Roy. I think Baron Davis is better, but then again I think Brandon Roy is pretty darn good too. Minnesota must be super happy they have Randy Foye now.

except the one year Z got like 2 minutes.

I'm pretty happy with teh results. CP & Roy got in. Shocked by the West pick, but i like him too.

I think Turkoglu & Calderon should've been considered instead of Rip Hamilton though.

I agree with every pick out East

as for the West, i'd ditch Amare and get Baron in there. I can understand the West pick, after all it will be in NOH, and he is on the verge of being a 20 & 10 player.

At leat the coaches got it right with the Brandon Roy pick. I love watching the kid play

No way you can ditch Amare out West... he's putting up monster numbers (especially as of late), and the Suns definitely deserve 2 all-stars. My only real complaint is that Baron didn't get in. He's one of the best point guards in the league when healthy (and he has been this year), and he's putting up much better numbers than Brandon Roy.

Brandon Roy:

19.3 pts / 4.5 rebs / 5.6 asts / 0.9 stls / 19.91 PER

Baron Davis:

22.3 pts / 4.8 rebs / 8.1 asts / 2.5 stls / 21.57 PER

Also, with the year Calderon has been having (maybe I like him so much since he's on my fantasy team), he can be sort of considered a snub. I wouldn't have minded seeing him on the team over Joe Johnson. I wouldn't be opposed to Turkoglu over Johnson, either.

Baron Davis should have definitely made it, that was unbeliavable- as great as roy has been, the warriors have a better record and he is much more vital. west is too packed though.. I agree with Dan_suth.

As much as I dislike Baron Davis, and think he should have made it (even over Roy), there are a couple reasons why Roy was picked.

1) Baron is a former Hornet, and I don't think he would be too welcome at the all-star game. Its a small factor, but it may have been a potential tiebreaker...

2) Baron's supporting cast > Roy's supporting cast; Baron has much more talented teammates than Roy, and at one point, a lot of people were saying Stephen Jackson was the real MVP of the team.

3) The surprise factor; We all expected GSW to do well. We expected the Blazers to be one of the 5 worst teams in the league.

Again, I think Baron Davis should have made it instead, but I understand the selection of Roy...

I can't believe how many Raptor fans are getting a hard-on over Jose friggin Calderon. Last time I looked you don't pick the all-star team based on efficiency.

exactly, he puts up STATs. IMO Roy's and Davis impact as #1 guys on playoffs teams deserves more credit than a #2 feeding off Steve Nash.

I think Roy was picked over Baron Davis because they probably didnt want 3 point guards where as Roy is a hybrid point guard/ shooting guard so essentially Davis was competing with Nash and Paul more than Roy. Well thats what i reckon anyway.

Last time I checked the backups were chosen like this...

2 backup guards
2 backup fowards
1 backup center
2 backup utility

In other words there would have to be atleast one center, and even though B diddy deserves to be there more than amare, amare is the back-up center for the west.

I don't know how to quote but I got this off NBA.com

The 14 players selected -- seven each from the Eastern and Western Conferences -- were chosen by the 30 NBA head coaches, who were asked to vote for seven players in their respective conferences -- two guards, two forwards, one center and two players regardless of position. They were not permitted to vote for players from their own team.

Finally, no fucking Shaq...had to wait 2008 for that...

I agree that B-Diddy should have definitely been there, but again, so should Camby, Josh Howard, and many others.
Pretty happy with the selection though, especially David West and Caron Butler.
