Will Chris Paul be better than Jason Kidd and Steve Nash?

Chris Paul,in his third year is having his best statistical season yet 21.5 ppg, 10.8 apg and a league leader in steals at 2.7 spg.

When people talk about who the best PG in the league is, two names normally come up, Jason Kidd and Steve Nash. Now does Chris Paul already belong in a discussion such as this? On who the best PG is? Is he bound to be better than both Nash and Kidd?

Kidd is a great passer, a great defender but is a horrible shooter shooting 36% from the field Nash is a great shooter, a great passer but can't defend if his life depended on it. Paul is a good shooter, a great passer and a great defender too. Also, Kidd and Nash are # 4 and 5 in TO's respectively, Paul is only #34, For a pass first PG, to average double digit assists and less than 3 TO's is incredible.

Now would you put Paul as among them and possibly better than them? or do you think he already is?

On a more serious note, I think Paul definately has the potential be better than them. He's still relatively young, so anything could happen. A bad break, and all talk is down the drain. Barring any serious injury problems, I think he will get better as the years go by, if he can gain experience and leadership skills. That's what I think separates Paul from Kidd and Nash. They both are very good at understanding their position. Because of all those charity stuff he does up here, I know Nash particularly is a great example of someone who is a leader off the court.

Messi will undoubtedly kick Ronaldo's and Shevchenko's asses. Those Maradona comparisons don't go unfounded.

As long as Paul doesn't get hurt for constant or long periods of time, it looks as of now like he'll be better than Kidd or Nash. Nash didn't get going in Dallas too quickly and was n't really more than a good point guard until he went to Phoenix (though it could be attributed to being a third option and not being given total reins of a high-scoring offense) and Kidd's numbers showed steady growth. I don't think he hit Paul's current third-year stats.

Will he ultimately surpass those two players? Possibly, it largely depends on his health and his competitive drive but he's already up there amongst the top point guards in the league and would seem to be destined to remain at that level for years to come. One advantage he has over those players is that he's getting an opportunity to be a stellar player in the league and is in a system that works for him much sooner than both Nash and Kidd.

Obviously his body of work isn't as impressive as Kidd or Nash, but this season Chris Paul is the best point guard in the NBA. Last year I questioned if he would ever fufill the promise of his rookie season, and I would have taken Deron Williams over him if given that choice. Chris forced things far too often last year and looked confused half the time. This year he has gotten rid of all the negative aspects of his game and become the best point guard in the NBA.

He has a better field goal percentage than Kidd, he turns the ball over less, and he gets more steals. Do these stats make him a better player? Possibly. He's led the Hornets to a decent season so far. Then again, John Stockton had less points and committed more turnovers per game in the majority of his career. Does this make Chris Paul better or as good as these players?

Give it some time. Kidd and Nash have done a lot for their teams, and just last season the Hornets were under .500. Paul definitely has the potential to lead them to several seasons of playoff contention, but stats don't say everything. Kidd is still averaging near triple-double numbers and the Nets still are struggling.

But looking at stats with more value, Kidd doesn't turn out so hot. Paul is shooting 58%, assisting on 49.6% of his teams baskets and turning it over on 13% of possessions. Kidd is shooting 48%, assisting on 49% and turning it over 24% of the time.

Do these stats make him a better player? Possibly.

No, stats don't change the players. (Unless...we're changing the result by measuring it?) The stats show how he is a better player. Paul is having a dominant season of ultimate awesomeness.
