Slam Dunk Contest

Postby grusom on Mon Jan 14, 2008 5:00 am

Apparently Jamario Moon has been invited to participate in this year's Slam Dunk Contest: http://www.thestar.com/Sports/article/293532

I like the selection, but thought I'd ask you guys who else you would like to see in this years contest.

Personally, I think Gerald Green should be invited again, even though he hasn't played much this year. Trevor Ariza, Amir Johnson, David Lee, Louis Williams, Rudy Gay, Andre Iguodala and Travis Outlaw are all names that comes to mind as well.

And of course, it would never hurt to send Jason Richardson, Vince Carter, Lebron James and Kobe Bryant an invitation as well - you never know :P

I've never seen Moon playing but those dunks and jumps were sick! But the best part was the dropkick over Williams.

Apollo 33 FTW.

Knowing Jamario was a former Globetrotter, I am hoping he has some tricks under his sleeve. (Y)

They are just a bit to similar - If you look at the the DC-lineup over the years, the NBA normally tries to mix it up with different types of dunkers. We need at least one power dunker and a small guy.

I would say that either David Lee or Dwight Howard could be invited as the power dunker, and Louis Williams or Nate Robinson (even though I doubt they would want him again) could be the small guy. The final spot could be filled up with an athletic swing man like Ariza or Green.

If it has to be a power guy i think it should be Shawne Williams from the Nets.

I miss the days when the league's best players actually loved taking part in the dunk contest. This is ridiculous....they should force people like kobe, lebron and especially vince to perform.

Yeah - since they can force players to perform in the ASG and rookie-soph game, why not the dunk contest?

It would be great to see Lebron go up against Dwight Howard, Vince carter and Jason Richardson/Kobe Bryant/Josh Smith

actually I'm having doubts about Kobe - he sucked big time the last time he was in the DC, even though he won.

It helps being an over-hyped 18 year old rookie. Chris Carr (or whatever the 'sota guy's name was) and Darvin Ham was totally robbed. Ham's 360-touch the backboard-dunk is one of the most underrated dunks in the contests history IMO:

It would be awesome if Vince, Lebron, and kobe would be in it. Add in someone like Jason Richardson, or Josh Smith. They should do this because there are only so many dunks you can do, and i think that having these past winners/stars in it would hype it up more. If we always get these young guys that not everyone knows, we have to have great dunks to make it a success. But having big names like Vince, Kobe, and Lebron make it a success before it even starts. Plus we wont get guys like nate robinson and chris anderson trying dunks for 10 minutes till they finally hit one. And i think there should be more than just 4 players. I thought back in the day there was at least 6. So what if it goes a little longer, cut the stupid event out where you have to pass the ball through holes and shit, thats lame.

Detroit hasnt won the finals since Darvin Ham left...

The dunk contest hasnt interested me in a while, it would be better to have a HORSE comp or something :P

That, or force the good people to show up, like others said.
Basically, force Carter and Smith... thatd own...

Rudy Gay is supposedly campaigning to participate in the contest. He seems like a pretty good candidate from what I've seen.

Rudy Gay, Jamario Moon, Dwight Howard(robbed by Nate last season) and Gerald Green are my picks.

I'd like them to make it 8 participants again I'd include : Josh Smith(i never get tired) , Trevor Ariza , Andre Iguodala( another one robbed by Nate ) and Sean Williams
