Korver traded to Utah.

Postby Martti. on Sun Dec 30, 2007 3:55 am

Philadelphia, PA - December 29, 2007 - Philadelphia 76ers President and General Manager Ed Stefanski announced today that the Sixers have acquired guard Gordan Giricek and a first-round pick from the Utah Jazz in exchange for guard Kyle Korver.

"We are excited about acquiring a player of Gordan's ability, as well as an additional asset in the form of a first-round draft pick," Stefanski said. "This move will provide us with increased salary cap flexibility this off-season and also allows us to continue our evaluation and development of the young talent we have on this team."

I hate it, cause Korver is my favourite player. I don't like the Jazz.

But they got a first, which won't be a top 15 for sure..

So, i think the Utah won big time. Giricek wasn't even seeing minutes.

Stefanski is trying to build through the draft.
If the Sixers still have their own pick next year, then they have a couple of picks in next season's draft.
Considering the Sixers amazing record of winning games these past years, the pick is surely going to be a lottery one.

I like the trade. The Sixers gain a pick, get rid of a one-dimensional scorer, and salary cap relief for next season if Giricek doesn't pan out with the Sixers.
While Utah gets a shooter for Boozer, Deron, or even Okur to kick out to.

I'm looking forward to Silas weighing in on this.

I personally like the trade, as I'm also a Korver fan (not my favorite player, and I'm sure -km- just wants to be cool by saying he is) and a Jazz fan. Although I was going to trade for him in my dynasty when I got around to updating it...

No, he's actually MY favorite player.

Now, I like this trade. It'll be strange not seeing him in black, but none the less I think this is going to be a positive move towards Korver's career. I could care less how it affects either team.

Korver wasn't playing enough in Philly, and Mo Cheeks is in love with Willy Green. Furthermore, management wants to develop young guys, and they have two prospects who play on the wing, so that didn't help Korver's situation any. All of this, coupled with injuries, was causing him to have his worst season since his rookie year. In fact, his numbers are his worst he's ever had in every statistical category (aside from FT%) since his rookie year.

In thinking about his situation in Utah, it seems much more promising. Obviously he'll be playing primarily SG because of AK47, and Utah is in search of a SG. They want a shooter who can spread the floor, they thought they had that in Giricek but realized that he's not so consistent. Jerry Sloan likes playing veterans, he likes playing guys who fit into a set offense, he likes shooters, he likes white guys who can shoot. Korver fits into everyone of those categories. Ronnie Brewer is going to be his main competition, and he's been playing great this season, but he can shoot for beans.

I think he's going to get more PT in Utah, and he's probably going to make the playoffs, both of these things are good for him. I'm interested to see how his production changes, but I think it'll be positive. The thing that's going to potentially hurt him is how much Sloan decides to play Ronnie Brewer.

Ronnie Brewer has defense, which Jerry Sloan undoubtedly likes more than "guys who fit into a set offense, he likes shooters, he likes white guys who can shoot".

I think Jerry Sloan's desire for structure is much more important than him than one individual defender. Kirk Snyder, DeShawn Stevenson, and Carlos Arroyo are all examples of players who like to break from the offense, especially Arroyo, and they all saw little success in Utah. Stevenson is known as somewhat of a stopper, and Sloan played him little in his tenure with Utah. He didn't play over 20 minutes a game until his final season at Utah, where he was traded mid-year.

Aside from AK47, none of his players are standout defenders, and I think Mehmet Okur, a great shooter, certainly leaves something to be desired in the defensive category.

I'm not saying Korver is going to take Ronnie Brewer's starting spot, but I think he's got a good shot of challenging him for some significant playing time. I do think he's going to fare much better than Giricek.

That's funny. I somehow remember Giricek as a first-rate shooter in one of my old dynasties. I think it was Live 06...

A great move for the Jazz, Korver can definitely fit into Sloan's offense. But I doubt he'll start, I'd project him getting around... 20-25 minutes a game.

If Korver was present today against Boston, would the Jazz have won? They clanged shot after shot off the rim in the final minutes.

This makes me miss my Jazz dynasty. I'd rather have Korver and AK-47 than Mike Miller and Damon Stoudamire.

Umm...yes. Anyway, back to the trade. I like the Jazz in this one. They got a great shooter for a useless guy in Giricek and a first rounder. Although that could be the difference. By some miracle they might get a little magic from Korver and go on a streak. I think jury's still out on this one.

Things change, my man. In Live 05, Korver was 50 something and Giricek was rated 62.

NO PEOPLE!!! KYLE KORVER IS <<<MY>>> FAVORITE PLAYER!!!!!!

Anyway, hopefully Korver will see more minutes in Utah. I'm not sure how well he'll fit in Sloan's system, but if there's a role for him to hit many threes without having to play defense, then he'll fit. His play also affects my play in the NLSC fantasy league.

Haha, thanks. I'm hoping his playing time goes up, and I have a feeling it will, but then again if it does increase, I don't think it will be by much. He's already playing in the high twenties, so if it increases I expect it to go up by just a handful of minutes.

What I do think will happen is he'll have a more consistent role. He was up and down in Philly this year and I think Sloan will provide him with some consistency.

Just take a look at his minutes played in the last several games:
26
28
22
33
21
32

Now hopefully he'll settle into something in Utah.

He looks more like carrot top in his face then Ashton Kutcher, but Korver does have brown hair, so he looks like Kutcher i guess.

I liked Gira but he is worthless when he is in Sloan's doghouse. Also the jazz don't need anymore rookies so the 1st rounder was also worthless. Great trade. I can't wait for the game tomorrow night.
