Scottie Pippen to play in Sweden

Just found out about this,
Scottie Pippen is going to play in Sweden in January. He will play with the team Sundsvall Dragons, currently second best team in the Swedish Basketball League. He will only play one game, on January 11th.

Unfortunately, I can't give you any links to the story, because at the moment there are only Swedish sites, but the team has confirmed it on their website and have had a press conference to announce the news.

This looks like Rodman played/wanted to play in Finland also about year or two ago for one game. Let´s see how he plays...

Reminds me of how Magic came to play a few games after his retirement for another Swedish team (Which was incidentally called Borås M7 Magic).

Yeah, I remember that too. Actually I was at Magics first game in Sweden, it was something special... :wink:

I remember hearing that Luc Longley almost convinced him to do it had the '99 lockout claimed the entire season. Because he would have only had to play once a week i think.

some team tried to get Rodman for one game here in Australia for like $50,000...don't know what happened with that.

No, it's just a regular season game. Adding Pippen for one game is just to creat some "hype" around the Basketball League and basketball in general in Sweden, I think.

Apparently their attendance is down this year, and, as Sacke12 said, it's probably to draw more attention to the team and the sport.. Sweden is not a big basketball nation, which is reflected in our world ranking (just above Gabon).

I once won tickets to watch Magic Johnson play for a Danish team - but the fuckers who made the contest sent me the tickets a day late

Fortunately he never suited up for the game because of an injury (if he had played I would have had to kill myself) , but since it was VIP tickets, I could still have met him. Still makes me mad to think about it even though it's a long time ago.

I think I'll consider going to Sweden for the Pippen-game - does any of you Swedes have some information on ticket sale?

According to the website, they release the tickets on the third of December at 11:00.
There's a number to it: 060-155400. Might want to call ahead though, just to make sure they'll accept ticket sales over phone.

I remember that, along with some speculation that if the season was cancelled some NBA vs NBL exhibitions would have been scheduled. I'd say it was for the best that the lockout didn't totally claim the 98/99 season but I would have liked to have seen those matchups.

If Australia saw how far behind the nbl is to the nba it would of turned the public even further away from this game here..

He's 42 years old and has been away from the game for a few years now. The NBA wasnt going to be a serious option at this stage.

Perhaps, though the NBA's superiority wasn't really a secret. The exhibition before the 2000 Olympics seemed to go over alright, the Vince Carter/Shane Heal incident aside.

Seems like he´s gonna play in Finland also. He will represent ToPo in games, against Honka and Tarmo. It´ll gonna be 4th and 5th January.

Well. Scottie came, saw and ... Well, he wasn't quite the old Pip, but he was nice.

He played in two games here in Finland with nice stats (after all he is 42 years old!).

Here's the LINKfor the stats of the second game. And HERE is for the first one. The stats are "in Finnish", so I'll clear up some of them to you: S= assists, LEV= rebounds (HL=offensive), V= fouls, M=turnovers, R=steals, T= blocks, TEH= +/- index and PIST= points. Also remember that here we don't give you passes that easily. One bounce by the player and that already excludes the possibility for an assist.

Pippen made some pretty nice passes and even dunked the ball once

I watched the second game from TV (and recorded it). It was pretty enjoyable game because it was against last years Finnish championship team Honka (their PG is the newly famous Petteri Koponen who got drafted by the Blazers last summer).

Yeah, I saw some highlights on the news the other day, he seemed a little stiff to say at least

But he put on a show for the fans, signing autographs and all that stuff. And on friday he plays here, in Sweden....

Unfortunately, I won't see the game live, but the show it on TV so...
